If there was no MINI

1991 Nissan Figaro

or the

1990 Suzuki Works

Funny, the blog I read this on, Gizmodo, the author wrote:

Still, for a cute car (such as this Toyota Sera) that’s sure to be the envy of my Mini Cooper-sporting neighbor, I’ll live. Now if only that 15-25 year ban was lifted…
Not quite sure I'd call the Sera cute.

I'm a big fan of the Nissan Figaro! That car rocks!! I also like the Daihatsu Copen. I'm not a fan of big hp cars...give me just enough power, some good handling, and a ton of fun and I'm there.

How about that Nissan Pao!!!

Daihatsu 360 would have been my first choice, but it's not included. Therefore second choice, a lot more money, a lot less capacity, but very classy, would be Nissan Figaro. The name alone makes me smile.

The Daihatsu Mira Gino is nice, too! Very, very Mini! Gotta find some pics.

If there was no MINI, it'd be a Mini.

If there was no Mini, I'd probably go for something small, front-engined, rear drive, and tin-roofed.

Without the archetype that is Mini, there might not be any transverse-mounted drivetrains, and hence, very few FWD cars (Cords, Olds Toronados, and Cadillac Eldorados being the notable exceptions- and all of those are huge, lumbering "Yank Tanks." Yuck. )

A Datsun 510 might do nicely. BMW 2002s rust faster and cost more than 510s, and Ford Cortinas, though they are easy to fit with Cosworth powerplants, rust much faster than 510s.

If MINIs went away today and I wanted a new car.....hmmmm, since 2-seaters are out for me, maybe an Xb. (I'd probably be looking for a classic Mini again though.)

Not much else in the US market that interests me.....sad. Is the new Swift available here? I liked my old '91 Metro (43mpg) but MINI quality is light years ahead of it.
