And it's finally going to have an adjustable steering wheel
I read the article & it looks like it's bigger inside & about the same size outside. Plus they've made provisions for additional airbags which is a good thing
No, I'm not tempted. I love my MINI Cabrio

I'm glad Mazda took the conservative evolutionary approach (no, they did not ask me). No pre-judgement intended, but I am anxious to see this circumspect Mazda next to an extrovert Saturn. New rolling sculpture is my idea of a road show. Thanks for this beautiful post. It saved me a trip to the magazine rack at Safeway.
Very nice.
I think it looks an awful lot like the S2000. Wonder what the folks at Honda think.

I like it a lot!
I'm glad they didn't do anything radical. It only weighs about 20 lbs more than the current one, too, according to what I've read. I'm glad to see they've moved reverse to the upper left.

My new Motor Trend -- just got it today -- discusses the new car. Really awesome! Here's the details in the magazine.
They won't call it a Miata in the US anymore, and instead will just use the MX-5 name, as they do in the rest of the world, so by by Miata. It will be out in July. Still has 50/50 weight distribution. Has a 2 liter making 170 hp and 136 lbft torque. 6700 redline. Power increase due to: 8% jump in compression ratio, better breathing with 58% lower air intake restriction and 40% less exhaust back pressure, variable valve timing, variable induction, and a lightweight flywheel.
Standard is a 6-speed manual with triple-cone synchros on first through fourth gears. A new 6-speed Activematic transmission featuring manumatic shifter flippers on the steering wheel is available -- I wonder what this will be like -- sounds like a higher performance automatic to me. Dual exhaust. Using trickledown technology from the RX-8, it will have a new multilink rear suspension and front-end structure and lots of aluminum parts. I like the current double wishbone, so this to me is a step down. Body is stiffer. Wider with a longer wheelbase. New tilt steering wheel allows for larger drivers. Accentuated intake and exhaust sounds.

Mazda just goes from strength to strength don't they?
IMO, I think Mazda has the best line-up of any company top to bottom although the top needs some work like the Mazda 9(?) and some new SUVs.
The 3, 6, RX8 and the new MX5 are just wonderful

Definitely nice! Funny......we spent a good portion of our Saturday at the Mazda dealership checking out the new MazdaSpeed and the RX8 as a possible replacement for our Scooter......hum......it's a tough decision....
I have to say, I was VERY impressed with Mazda. No high pressure sales, clean parts and service departments, good warranty, road side assistance, etc. Our decision is up in the air......what to do.......

We also spent part of Saturday test driving the MazdaSpeed. Not to replace the Cabrio but possibly the 97 Miata. It's a great little car especially with the turbo. And the dealers around here are offering big markdowns on the 2004 MazdaSpeeds they still have on their lots. Good luck in looking for Scooter's replacement. It was fun being a 2 MINI family for a while but after waking Fred the Red up from his winter's nap, I realized how much I missed motoring in the Miata also

If I didn't sometime have the need for a car with some kind of trunk or hauling capacity I too would give the next MX-5 a look. My wife had 2 Miatas a 91 and a 98. Both exceptionally reliable, great cars to drive. Just a little flimsy, particularly when compared to a Mini. But they do have a winner on their hands. I'm sure the car mags will be all over comparos between the MX-5 and the Soltice. I think the Pontiac is a terriffic looker. But knowing GM's corporate mentality, I can't possibly believe it will out Miata the next MX-5. Probably is right on a par with the last generation Miata.
We'll see.
