Subaru Impreza WRX?
Subaru Impreza WRX?
I have a 99 Tahoe that I am retiring after 170,000 mi. I still need a wagon and I'm looking at the WRX sport wagon. I want to save my Mini from too many miles and my dog after Mt bike rides (she gets very muddy etc) The 02 WRXs can be had for 15 -16 K with about 30K mi. Have any of you had experience with this car and have any of you "chiped" it to get some more power particularly at the high end?

they are so different. But comparison in 'fun factor', both cars
have a lot of punch for the price.
The WRX lacks in handling where it recovers in acceleration.
MCS lacks in acceleration where it recovers in handling...
I almost got a WRX wagon, but I got a MCS instead!
After my '00 VW Golf lease ended last March, I was disappointed that the VW Golf and GTI hadn't changed at all, so I looked elsewhere, and totally fell in love with the Subaru WRX wagon. I test drove it twice, and loved the raw acceleration, but the cheapish interior styling left me kinda cold.
But I was definitely going to get one, until I (on a whim), decided to go test drive a Mini Cooper S. Well, sorry to drop a cliché, but it literally was love at first drive.
I instantly bonded with that car. It has so much more personality, and fit my personality much better than the WRX. It is more unique than the WRX too. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing I might miss from the WRX wagon would be sheer cargo capacity. There's obviously no comparison there, but oh well. That is why my wife has a Honda CR-V. My car is for me, not for "us" and all our cargo and luggage. (But don't tell her that!)

Congrats, spiderx!
I've only seen 2 around my area, but those are nice looking wagons. I think octaneguy bought one too a few months ago.

I briefly test drove a 2013 WRX. It was a blast. It had snap-your-head-back acceleration and handled like it was on rails. The interior was pretty bland, but that's not such a big deal. If it wasn't $33K I would have traded in my MINI and driven it home. That said, I think it's ugly as sin... but that isn't a deal breaker
