I saw one of the test vehicles on the freeway a few months back. It is extremely fugly. Unfortunately many German cars are losing their identity and becoming more and more like their Japanese competition in terms of styling. I have the last generation Jetta, which I believe had great lines. But nothing beats the second generation GTI except the MINI!

I saw one testing in Germany a few months back, I was quite underwhelmed. I do like the new GTI, tho, it is a bit "heavy" on the back...

I owned a MK4 Jetta VR6 and I can't say anything about this new Jetta (or the new Golf) excite me very much. The new A3 looks good though.

I suppose I'm the only one that likes this new design. It makes the Jetta look more mature. I'm a fan of the new E60 5 series and its angular body panels and it high beltline.

I saw quite a few Golfs when I was over in the UK recently and I just don't care for the spot where the hood and then a-pilars intercept. I suppose they had to do something to make the high-beltline look more integrated.

On the Jetta the high beltline has another downside however. It's the very downside cars like the 5 series manage to sidestep... the sheer amount of metal and plastic on the rear quarter panel of the car is a bit awkward. Maybe it's just me and my memories of previous VW designs but it just seems like they've lost their way a bit.

I guess it makes sense...when the new Corolla came out, you could see that it was obviously too its major design cues from the MKIIIV Jetta. It's a step in the wrong direction for VW. they should be upgrading, moving closer to luxury, not towards ricer econobox

Old school 80's style is key, but even with like the Jetta III (no glove box - what was up with that?) and the Jetta IIIV with the GLI, it seemed like they were moving in a positive direction. It is supposed to be a younger persons car, people who want some european class and decent performance. Toyota makes a great vehicle, but it's very different style and market than the VW

*Sporty front end shape
*formal C-pillar
*rice-generic rear end (which makes me want to throw up)

Cohesive? HA, good joke!

In addition to looking Toyota-ish, it just looks too big. The Jetta isn't supposed to be a big sedan, that's what the Passat is for. Looks like they are no onger trying to compete with the sporty sedan element and are going after things like the Camry or Accord. Not a smart move on the part of VW

Not my kuppa. Not at all.

Bigger. Bigger. Bigger.

Gonna happen to the MINI, too. Just you wait!

Get yours now while you can!

Never liked the name Jetta, still it is better than Vento which VW also uses. Vento is too close to ventoso, Spanish for fart. Then again, maybe there is something there.....

Vento was used on the MKIII
Bora is the name used for the MKIV in the rest of the world

I *think* the MKV is keeping the Bora designation.
