MINI - Opposite...

Just when I thought it couldnt get any worse I read about this:

The Navistar CXT : marketing slogan...

"POSSIBLY TOO MUCH TRUCK. LIKE THAT’S A PROBLEM."

http://www.navistar.com/site_layout/severe/cxt.asp

http://money.cnn.com/2004/09/13/pf/a...ex.htm?cnn=yes

I have to say that it makes me really sad- sad because I'm sure (especially here in LA) there will be a market for these obscene beasts.

Will it ever end? :(

Heck, I would not mind having that, considering my current truck is a Dodge Cummins Diesel 4x4, and I beat the crap out of it hauling stuff. I have no problem with big, useful vehicles. However, the unfortunate part is that there are going to be quite a few who will buy that truck and haul nothing more than their asses around. They'll want it to upstage the Hummer folks.

However, I know a few people who could use that type of truck in their businesses. They are already complaining that their one ton trucks are sometimes not big enough. This would be better on the road than an overloaded pickup.

Greatbear-

Agreed- a useful truck is a whole different story- I have relatives that live in the midwest and need a 4x4 for the winter, hauling etc...

But I live in LA and am already surrounded by cell phone talking, latte drinking single occupant - WAY OVERSIZE - chromed out SUV's- and it's just un-called for.

I thought the H2 was a menace- this thing will surely be making the rounds out here- too many people in this town have money to burn and can't wait to upstage their friends-

I just don't see how it makes any sense at all to drive something that must be such a hassle to own?

Sad as it seems about the size, I have to agree with Greatbear all the way on this one. There is a huge market for this type vehicle – NOT the non functional Hummers. My father use to pull a 28 foot Cabin Curser behind a pickup that had to be modified in suspension, transmission and towing capacity just to do it. There are also many people out there with extremely large RV trailers to add some other uses to his list.

BTW shouldn’t this be in Off Topic Autos and not MINI talk.

I agree with Greatbear, as long as its useful (and used as such). I wouldn't mind having a truck like that either. My current one is a Ford F350 Crew Cab 4X4 dually. I know huge. But it gets used as a truck, not a commuter. It hauls a 34' gooseneck trailer all over the sierras, moves 9+ tons of hay a year, and at least 3-4 coards of wood a year. And then other things that only a "truck" can do. It is not by any means a daily driver, and it is not fun to try to use as such, but when there is work to be done its my first choice.

That truck above (now I look at it again) might still be a little big. Sad thing is you will see those lifted, and towing a small quad to the dunes for a weekend of fun. Thats not work, I could tow one of those with my MINI.

Quote from the CNN Money article: "We can see it as a vehicle for business people who want to make a distinct impression. For personal use, it's for people who want to make a statement."

That statement is, "I have a Micropenis and need to compensate big time!"

Being that this truck has a more-or-less 'standard' sized 8 foot bed, there is a bit of a limit to some of the carryable loads. This truck would work perfectly in a trailer with support crew situation. Race crews, construction, farming, that sort of thing. International already has a similar truck setup that the super-serious can configure for such situations, but there is no bed.

The price should keep most of the wannabes at bay, but there will be some with more dollars than sense that will be buying these things. The price wont deter someone who seriously needs such a truck though.

The first time one of these shows up on "Pimp My Ride", all bets are off.

I am sure that every moron here in Orange County will be replacing his/her F350 or H2 with one of these for 1) dropping off and picking up the kids from soccer practice; 2) going to Starbucks and taking up three compact parking spots, and 3) making a fashion statement to the other morons.
