For more than 40 years, Kalamazoo, Mich., based B&B Trucking Inc. has been a successful contract carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. According to B&B maintenance director, Andy Blackburn, the secret to the company’s success stems from its two main philosophies. “First, always take pride in what we do and who we are,” said Blackburn. “And, build an environment where people want to work, and deliver superior, on-time service.” We caught up with Blackburn at B&B’s headquarters.

Q1: What brand of trucks does your fleet typically use?
Blackburn: We rely on Volvo trucks. They’ve really been great vehicles for us.
Q2: Tell us about your maintenance practices?
Blackburn: When it comes to engine performance, the most important thing you MUST do is to use the best oil you can. For the past 10 years, we have been using Mobil Delvac 1™ synthetic heavy-duty engine oil. We use it in all of our trucks and are able to keep our trucks running like new well past a million miles.
Q3: Why do you use Mobil Delvac synthetic lubricants?

First off, we know Mobil Delvac 1 will help extend the life of our truck engines. We often have trucks that travel beyond one million miles that still operate almost like new trucks.
Using Mobil Delvac 1, we are able to operate our vehicles with extended drain intervals of up to 100,000 miles. In our pre-EGR vehicles, we have seen fuel economy gains consistently in the range of 3 to 5 percent using Mobil Delvac.

I use Mobile 1300 Super 15w40 in all of my diesel Mercedes cars.
