Go kart build

I am in the process of replacing the engine of a 5 hp go kart with a vertical shaft belt drive 18.5 hp mower engine. Haven't seen the mower engine yet but I have been trying to research how to convert the power to horizontal drive. I got to kart for free from my friend. The kart has wheels, the frame, stealing, ect. Basically everything needed except the original engine doesn't work and I want to upgrade the torque and speed with the mower engine witch I'm going to pick up from another friend for a measly 25 dollars. I have a total of $400 but really don't want to spend that much just on a "transmission" so I was wondering if any of you guys have any insite on this project or have done this before. I have red about RAGBs or right angle gearboxes but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. Thanks

Just curious why you posted this 4 times with the exact same info on the exact same group? Can you Google your info?
