tight oil filter

first time changing my jettas oil filter, and i cannot make it move. even with a oil socket wrench.

as i know, all oil filter should be hand tight right? therefore the last one who did my oil are responsible to over torquing my filter?

so should i take my car back and demand they remove my filter at their expense? if they brake the casing they own me a own one?

Is this a spin on or cannister type filter?

Spin-on's tend to get tight over time, that's normal - even when only hand tightened properly.

Cannister types can be over tightened, but maybe you're just not using the right tool? IE: a long enough ratchet handle?

A cannister type only needs to be tight enough not to loosen up or leak, it doesn't need to be hugely tight. Be sure to put plenty of oil on the o-ring and threads when you re-install it. On MINIs from 2007 and on the cannister is made out of plastic!

Where did you have the oil changed at the last time? If the dealer or a competent shop did it I probably wouldn't be worried about it, if it was at a Jiffy Lube or similar..........well, shame on you for even taking it there!

wifes car, so i meet her at the goodyear.

i go in and ask for the manger. and told him they changed my oil last and the filter was stuck.

he quickly defended and said" they did everything to VW spec". i expected this anyways. so i told him, "simple, you put this oil filter on you will remove it". he declined, saying it might leak and he dont want to be responsible for the cars engine. i said, he is responsible from the moment you over tighten the filter.

he walked to the shop and talked to some guy. i followed, he told me to "go away, it was private". I said" it about my car, therefore includes me". guy was becoming an ***. the guy in the shop said "oil filter always lock up like i reported". i said, "then loosen it". why is this so hard? ,"we cant it will lose all its oil. why would you want to remove the oil filter anyways?"they asked.

well finally they said "fine we will loosen it, but we are not responsible if your engine blows on the way home".

i left in my car to work as they pulled it in the bay.

wife calls me , to tell me how they showed her how easy it was removed. guy barely turned with his hand. i most be really weak. thanks for the insult GOODYEAR!

also they said to my wife , i did not know how to do it, cause i need to remove some BOLT that hold it together. this is something i never heard of.
