Finder's fee?
Finder's fee?
My wife has decided to let go of her hot rod for financial reasons. Not going to be an easy car to sell for anywhere near what she has in it. It's a 67 Plymouth GTX 440, body off restoration, completely correct in every detail. She has $50k into this car. We've discussed the major auctions but neither of us have any experience with them and keep backing off out of fear.
I have a great boss. He's a former State Senator and knows everyone! I know he's not a car guy; he has 3 private planes. Should be enough toys to keep anyone happy.
I approached him today and asked if he knew anyone who might be a player for the X. He made a quick call and then had me talk to the guy. He's interested! Coming to look this weekend.
Now to the question: if this pans out, would a finder's fee be appropriate in this situation? And if so, how much? 5%? More? Less?
Never been in this situation before and could use some words of wisdom.

Thanks, both of you. I'm 100% certain he wouldn't accept any cash from me, but he and I are both "firearms fanatics" (AKA gun nuts) and I was thinking of surprising him with something special along those lines....
I'd try to be a humbling person. I think I would write a 5% check for him but present it to him not as a form of commission or a finder's fee but more as a "please accept this as my thanks."
If he refuses, ask to at least take him out to dinner. And get him a good Christmas present.
