as a previous smart car owner (yea, I even admit that), I agree that I would love to see a trend for consumers to purchase smaller, more fuel efficient cars such as the Mini and 500. even smaller Hondas, Toyotas, etc....would be better than seeing all the big sedans and SUV's.

I'm REALLY excited that Mini has expanded their lineup and expanded the Mini with the 4x4 model. living in Central Indiana and having to deal with huge snowfalls from time to time, I could see one of those in my future as well.....

As gas prices keep going up, smaller cars will become much more common, as will people trying to live more densely with walkable neighborhoods.

has anyone actually Driven the 500 yet and if so, honestly, how did it compare to your Mini? I can see pros and cons for both the Mini and 500, so I think it will come down to which vehicle fits not only the needs of the buyer but the buyer themselves.

I'm a rather large guy, not as young as I used to be, and I've found that the 500 IS easier for me to get in and out of.

the Mini is a proven great car and the 500 appears to be one......just not proven (at least here in the US) to be one yet.

so, anyone take a test drive yet and if so, whatcha think???
umm... didja notice https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...33-post22.html

I saw one yesterday. It is a cool little vehicle. I won't trade my Mini for one though.

I welcome the little fellah...lots of folks are going to have fun with these. Fingers crossed...if they get good reliability and build quality right (overcoming historic fears), the car will do great.

I was at an Invitation only (for the cars, not the audience) european car show 2 weeks ago, and a brand new one was there. The owner let me sit in it. It's roomier than a cooper, but otherwise is the same layout with less power. I tlaked to the owner for a little while afterwards, and she was just over the moon about the Abarath SS that will come over here at some point. Unfortunately, she was a little uneducated with regard to a MINI. I think it will probably replace the smart car in the US.

If not the iQ will. Still, I wonder if Mercedes went to certain lengths on a next gen car, perhaps the ForTwo would be a stronger contender and overcome prevailing perceptions/weaknesses.
