Gorgeous Morgan Aero Supersport

Just saw the quick blurb about this Morgan in Car & driver and thought I would share. If I had $185K sitting around I would have to pick one up!

The Morgan Aero 8 has MINI headlights. And a BMW 4.4 liter V-8.

I didn't even pay attention to the lights but you are right. I knew there was another reason I really like it.

I hadn't seen it in red, I like it even more now. I agree, if I had the cash it would definitely be in my stable...

I'm not keen on the more recent Morgan designs....the attempt to update the classic Morgan style of the 60's and 70's just doesn't do anything for me. And before I get stomped on....I know it's just personal taste....everyone has a different opinion....Actually since my name is MORGAN the car has always been very close to my heart and if I were to have spare cash lying around then.....

Tanner took one for a spin on Top Gear America recently. I love the wholly impractical lines and questionable construction materials (wood in the chassis? Really?) It's a rather dignified looking vehicle. Just don't take it to top speed as you'll likely go airborn.

The wood is in the body, not the chassis, just like all Morgans.

I wonder if you can get a Grey Poupon mustard bottle holder as an accessory?

I think his 'analysis' of the wholly impractical lines was wholly off the mark... the [ahem] 'real' Top Gear had the Stig thrash it on the track, and it produced a very competitive 1:25.9 : http://www.fastestlaps.com/tracks/top_gear_track.html

Yes, you're right, it's an ash frame that supports the bodywork.

His lap speed on the road course shows [a peak?] 118kph (73mph). A far cry from the published 170mph. Aerodynamically, it is impractical to pair this body with that top speed.

You are, however, spot-on that TopGear UK is the real deal.

Are you somehow implying with this that tested cars are capable of reaching their top speed on Top Gears 'quaint' little test course?

No, that is not at all what I was stating. Sorry for the confusion. I was responding to the topic of the vehicle's aerodynamic lines. I was stating that a lap time on a road course is not a valid evaluation of the aerodynamics for a vehicle that can attain much higher speeds than those acheivable on a road course.

Gotchya ; Thanx. Ya, you gotta point with that. I see whatchya mean. I'm reminded of my C43 up @ 150mph with stock suspension, cresting a hill with a slow right turn ... stomach still clenches remember that sensation of thinking I might be losing the car. Lift is not your friend at extra high speed!
