Well, that's it. Chris Bangle has managed to bungle up the entire line of BMWs. When will he turn his immense talent to destroy great looking cars on the MINI?

I can see why people dislike the current BMW design trend, but I think it's nice to see car company doing something a little edgier.

The 3 series doesn't look much different than the 5.

Personally, I think the 6 looks great. The best looking of the current BMW bunch, IMHO.

I actually don't mind that 3 from the front end, but of course we need to see the rump - that's where Bangle really mucks things up.

I'm not very fond of the way the hood is creased hooking around the badge.

Agreed. I like the headlight treatment though.

The way the beltline ascends as it moves toward the rear makes the rear 3/4 look a little chunky.

Actually the headlights on this 3 remind me a little of the tail lights on the new 5.

Interesting that the 3, 5, and 7 will all have different headlight designs.

They look stupid.

And by that I mean that they look unintelligent. Both are very dopey and heavy-browed -- kind of like a neanderthal skull that's been whacked out a'la the space age.

More pooh-pooh than sporty (but then, I've always hated everything above a 3)

Yeah, no doubt about that.

The C-class and the A4 already look old to me. The 3-series looks "odd' but it doesn't look old.

I think the new 3 looks great! The only thing I don't like about the 5, 6 and 7 are the headlights with the "eyebrow" turn signals. I'm glad the new 3 didn't go that route.

Did I miss something here? 1st off where did that photo come from and where was it first published? Are they claiming it to be the new 3er? I saw it at autospies but don't personally put much faith in some of their "reporting". Secondly I can't believe everyone is throwing down opinions on one photo and angle.

Okay now that i have that off my chest I agree with countrym. Beyond the hood crease, which looks a bit forced IMHO, I like the overall shape. Otherwise I'll be waiting until final photos are released to come to any sort of preliminary judgement.

Gabe,

I found it over on VWvortex so it must be true. Point taken about it not being an official pic.

Even once we have official pics it's going to take a while to really have an opinion solidify. The 5'er for instance is growing on me over time. In pictures, I didn't care for it much. Even the first time I saw it "in the flesh" it didn't really do much for me. It'll take time.

At least BMW is doing something different. The same can't be said of Mercedes and Audi. IMO, their designs seem dated almost as soon as they hit the showroom (the SL500 being an exception).

I think I am the only person in the world that likes the direction BMW is taking with their cars. That said, I think BMWs photograph really badly. Anytime I see a photo of a BMW, I think, "Is that the car I just saw at the dealership?" Anyways, I think the cars look classy yet edgy. The new 5 is perfect IMO. The old version 5 looked like a frumpy old-man car. The new one looks racey. As for the front turnsignal that looks like an eyebrow--I think Bangle was trying to accentuate a BMW trademark. Look at other BMWs, they have an upturned turn signal lense too (but not as drastically). I like, too, that the new bimmers don't "blend in" so blandly like new (say) audis. The only thing I don't like is how on the Z4 Bangle put a metal "crease" through the BMW roundel on the side by the door--it doesn't belong. Other than this, I'll be shopping with BMW for many years.

I'll make this simple.
I don't like the new 7-Series. I don't like the new 6-Series. I don't like the new 5-Series. And if this is the new 3-Series I don't like it either. JMHO

I take it you are not very partial to BMW? Too bad this wasn't a BMW forum.

Samsung toasters are heavy- lets put on "bigger wheels" to compensate.

Eh... I think it's because Audi has been busy winning Le Mans... year after year (of course this year, they let their Bentley car win instead of the "yet again" R8). In all seriousness though, I don't think the A8L looks dated at all. In fact it's beautiful, and it has "sleeper" written all over it. The same thing can be said about the RS6. Mercedes, on the other hand, I agree with you. Nothing ever wows me from them.

Just me perhaps... but the back looks like a Taurus. And that makes me want to vomit.

The front "brow" shall we say is also unflattering. The "edgier" look is not a bad thing... it's just very hard to get it RIGHT!

I don't mind the new five series, I really like the headlights. Looks like the car is pissed off or something. The overall shape of the new 3 series from that picture looks pretty nice. The hood crease and front lower grill area needs a little work IMO. Still nicer than a Mercedes

I like all the new Chris Bangle designs except for the trunk and the rear end. It just looks like an after thought and slammed onto the rear. It's like they had a jaguar rear end and said "wait...we need more trunk space for our buyers" Otherwise I like all the creases and the aggressive designs. It's very distinctive and very brave of BMW to not be vanilla like every Toyota, Lexus, Acura, and Mercedes.
