its official.... 5.0 is back in the mustang. gt will now have 412 hp... not too bad. should compete nicely with the new camaro ss if they can keep it weighing the same as the current gt.

As a previous Mini owner (07 MCS) and current mustang owner (08 GT convertible) I'm glad to see the new motor. Although the 4.6 has lots of power and has served the mustangs well over the last 14 years. I don't believe the weight is a big issue at all. I've got the most recent 5.0 mag and it mentioned an increase but if memory serves it was only about 20 lbs. I'm sure the additional 97 hp over the 2010 mustang will more than make up for it.
I Purchased a 88 5.0 GT bak in the day brand new, was a good car back then, tons of torque was a real burn out machine. But my 68 Vette actually handled better and stopped better and had more HP with the bigger block.
That being said, last week a friend of mine purchased a 71 or 72 Ford 460 Interceptor engine and will rebuild. He is looking for a current Generation Stang to put it into.

Forced Induction Baby! Kenny Bell blower can get you into the 700 hp range not bad for a 4.6L engine. I'd love to try that out anyone mind donating to a worthy cause for more hp?
The venerable 4.6L can certainly get it done -- but the new 5.0L is a much-improved design. It's lighter, looks more purty, and is both more powerful and more efficient.
Too bad the sheetmetal around it doesn't look as good as the '05-'09's...

Standard now are GT disc brakes all around, optional 19 inch wheels, stiffer bushings, bigger stabilizer bar, dual exhaust standard, low rolling resistance tires, and 7% better aerodynamics because fascia tuning, an underbody tray and wheel spats. Anyone who's been in the convertible knew cowl shake was a problem, and as such Ford's stiffened things quite a bit, the 2011 is over 1000% stiffer than the 2010. That's not a typo. The improvements come in underbody and cowl cross-bracing and structural foam injected into the door pillars. 1000%, pretty impressive.
Ford has no choice. Camaros are selling like hot cakes and are proving to be very good cars. The General is starting to redeem himself. I don't know if a 5.0 badge is going to help Ford in the muscle car war. It'll help though, and it is good to see the 5.0 is back. Brings back memories.

*No clue if that's entered into the order banks or just dealer hyperbole.
If that's true I might have to stop hating Mustangs...
I never got the crazy straight line speed mentality. Eventually everyone needs to stop or turn, and many of the mustangs over the years have been lacking.
I know this is out of date and might not be entirely true I do have to agree with Hammond

DOHC and Varaible valve timing on an american muscle car

who know's i might actually consider an american car now for once
Seriously, when has there ever been a GM car that wasn't too heavy. Maybe the tin cans they imported from other countries and called their own. It's just a fact, the new Camaro drives like a dream. Mustangs are over rated, but that's my opinion.
DOHC on a muscle car. Simple......Ford plans on possibly making the Mustang a "Global" car. What does this mean? It means that the purity of the original concept of the Mustang has gone out the door. Much like the Mini's when BMW redesigned it. Oh, and it's about time the Mustang beat the Camaro. We all know what happened back then.
