Pontiac G8 - anyone look at it yet?
Pontiac G8 - anyone look at it yet?
I test drove one yesterday. Drove a GT with the AT, not sure they have a manual available? This car would be for the wife so a manual is out anyway. First observation, the engine is kinda noisy compared to her smooth inline 6, she as a BMW 330ci, which is underpowered on paper to the G8, 225hp to 365hp, but with the G8 in normal auto, it, her BMW, seemed to be just as quick. Switch the G8 to sport shift, not tiptronic, and it was much more responsive. Car had a nice ride, light to the touch, good for a fairly big 4 door car. Second observation, guess we are not used to American cars, it just had a plasticy feel to the interior, wasn't to bad, just not like her BMW. And the biggie, the display panel for all the controls was broken
What the heck? It's a brand new car and it's broke already? Anyway, I will still bring the wife in to check it out as she is ready to get rid of her BMW. It, the G8, still seems like a pretty nice car so it's in the running for us.

I was seriously looking into getting a G8 before I got my new JCW. I liked the look and the power, but the options were too limited (No manual trans, or Navigation, or bluetooth). Also, with the Big 3, having trouble, and hearing rumors of shutting down the Pontiac division I could not justify buying a car from a division that is getting closed down. Also I used to drive a Pontiac Grand Prix. It was a nice car, and had decent power for a 4-door, but it had A LOT of electrical issues and recalls; with the G8 being such a new car I feared that I would have the same experience. So.. to summarize, lol, to each their own but the G8 was just not for me.
I was researching it as a 535i competitor and it's a very good package for an amazing price (half price of 535i with similar equipment). I just didn't want to go that big, it's 500lbs and 5" bigger than the 5-series and that's where I draw the line. Other than that, you get a lot of car for the money - the discounts on the Australian-built domestics right now are insane.
Yea what's up with that, no nav. avaliable
I asked the salesman that, he shrugged his shoulders.
