2009 S 40 T5 R design
I have a friend whose Volvo just rolled over 500,000 miles(1987 740 wagon), all on the same engine and nothing else too major replaced. So they are not all bad, my dad had a Volvo 740 Turbo, that was a great car. Honestly, this is the first story about a Volvo I have heard that has been this negative. Plus Volvo is throwing in scheduled maintenance now too.
I am with benjam, sounds like Lemon Law should have been look at.

Call me crazy, but with the cars that we currently own, I still find myself kicking my own butt for getting rid of my 98 S70 T5 with the 5speed. Even though it was FWD and handled like a pig. It was hilarious trying to put that much power through the LSD in the front.....and it was sooooo comfortable.
Most pre-Ford Volvos were solid cars. I always liked the squared off, stodgy models instead of the ultra svelte models now in showrooms.
I have never owned a Volvo and have no interest in them. I would buy an Audi first before getting into a Volvo.

Texas lemon law, at the time, only allowed invocation during the first 9 months of ownership. It has since been beefed up.
Conversely, the Wife took her Lexus in for routine warranty service, complained about the brakes squeaking a bit when she was in reverse. They replaced all rotors, calipers and pads at all four corners claiming there is no way they should have been doing that. Lexus wanted the parts back to test with. All for a squeak when the car was being stopped in reverse.
So, at 30,000 miles she has a brand new set of rotors, calipers, and pads at all four corners.
Lexus has my business for life. I am all about support after the sale. Volvo failed miserably in that regard. The car was crap, and the company did not stand behind it.
I know not all Volvos are bad, but lord help you if you get a bad one, because Volvo sure won't.

You are so right about Lexus. My wife is on her third and ready to go to her fourth. Never a problem. Quality build. Excellent customer service from sales, financing to service. We just got a campaign notice which I guess is a form of recall. Letter says she will have a loaner, a cup of starbucks coffee, car wash and full tank of gas on departure. Yes, she pays for this level of service but for her its definitely worth it.
i really liek audi personally, especially this new sports coupe
