Fastest you've ever gone?

Just curious, what's the fastest you've ever driven OUTSIDE a racetrack? My record (and I probably never will break it) is 90 mph in my dad's Audi A6 on the autobahn from Germany into Switzerland. BTW, I didn't "joyride," dad was in the car with me! Heck, he even shouted at me to "speed up!" It's tough to balance speed and safety when you're in the middle lane, the Porsches are giving you a miserable time on the left lane and the semis are poking along in the right lane. Not for the faint of heart.

I have broken my speedo cable twice exceeding 150 MPH in my Merceedes, but beside that I think my Mini has a govenor at 105 MPH. I think I need to have the ETC reprogrammed or something. I did want to take it to the top end.

In My MCS it was an unspecified speed

on the drive from Cocoa Beach to Jacksonville on 95. great bit of road with trees lining both sides so no state troopers can hide.

(did read the guidelines missed number 5, only know cause i went and rechecked, edited to meet said guide lines)

Does anybody even bother to read the site guidelines anymore?

Remember the NAM guidelines and post legal driving speeds only.

Mine...

Driver of a car: 165 mph. German autobahn in my 300ZX.

Passenger in a car: 205 mph in a 7-Series on a different German autobahn.

"Driver" of an F-16 Fighter jet: about 950 mph.

Passenger of same F-16 Fighter jet: about 1275 mph.

There's a post somewhere here on NAM where I talk about that ride on the F-16. You could make fun of me for the remainder of my years here on NAM if you read it.

Didn't lose any body fluids, as a matter of fact.

But I would have had I had anything in my stomach. No, I dry heaved for half of the 60-some minute sortie (pilot language for "flight"). And I turned as white as any human has ever turned in the history of mankind. For the next couple days, I intermittently had blood coming out of my nose and ears. And I busted the blood vessels in my eyes... looked like something out of a horror movie.

1998 Corvette -180mph

I had my 98 vette at 180mph + and took this photo. It is a little blurry and I just can't figure out why. Car was steady as a rock but the wind at that speed was really scary. I thought it was going to suck the side windows out. I held the camera up and hoped for the best. I was surprised I got this one.

The highly-trained and ever-vigilant law enforcement professionals around here make speeding a bad idea so I don't ever do it. Fortunately, MINI are still fun within the posted speeds.....which is very cool!!!

What's very cool about driving at those speeds is how wide open your senses are.... eyes wide open and checking the horizon for any dangers, your brain very focused, your adreneline rushing.... because you know it only takes wrong move to end your life in a millisecond.

I forget what class it was in but one of my professors told us that driving at those speeds releases chemicals similar to cocaine.

Very stupid on my part

It was not very smart of me to run that fast even though I was on a closed racetrack. I used to have an SCCA license but not for many years. As CR&PW&JB said,"it only takes one wrong move at that speed to end the fun.
I have a 2009 JCW now and I will probably never top speed it at all. Although I did jump it up to 120 once just to see how it pulled. It did pull all right and I may run it up if I can get on the Speedway again. I"m not about to run top speed on the public roads. I'm really trying to take it easy until I get it broke in properly. I will be out at the speedway this weekend with my friend with his Porsch and He is asking me to bring the JCW but I don't really have enough miles yet.1,600 is just not enough for me to start running as hard as I would like to.

For anyone that missed it the first time around
LEGAL
Posts relating to street racing, excessive speeding, or violations of other laws are prohibited. If you want to race, take it to a legal venue.
Autobahn is fine, track is fine, implied on the public US roads is a no-no

This one is done.
