Audi R8!!!

My pop's new toy. 1 of 3 in DFW...this month there will be a few more delivered. But still, in places like Dallas, South Florida + Southern Cali, you'll see one of these for every dozen Bentlys, Ferraris, and Lamborghinis.

Truly amazing to drive!

Carbon Fiber! Black interior. Did I mention that it came with a 500 page booklet AND dvd on just HOW to drive it? Again, not an owners manual, that's a different novel to read...this one tells you all the little quirks it has.

Including...you have to turn the key once to turn on all electronics. Wait 2 seconds. Then turn again to start the engine! It's got the sequential transmission (I forget Audi's official name for it) Even in regular D mode, you can take your foot off the brake and it won't move. There is no idle forward motion like on every other auto trans. If you have your foot off for more than 10 seconds, it will switch into neutral and you have to manually put it back in drive for it to go!

Like I said...a few little quirks.

Do me a favor...tell your dad I hate him and his dammed money. No just kidding. Awesome car and I am hella jealous. I saw 2 in 1 day about 10 minutes apart. 1 was at a dealership (big surprise) and the other was on the road.

i believe the R8 uses the DSG transmission. like has been discussed a few times, it is technically a manual because it does not have a torque converter but it does have 2 clutches. that car looks absolutely evil in black, first i have seen it in black and the first time i have can say i LOVE the look of this car.

and as far as quirks, its European. that explains all the quirks right there. and i agree with hemi, i had your dad for all his money, but love him for his taste in cars

sorry i lied, its not DSG, its R Tronic. i believe it is the same idea as DSG

I saw quite a few while I was in Germany this summer, but had to stop and look every time one went by. Beautiful car in person.

To be honest...in the world of super cars the R8 isn't nearly as expensive as a Ferrari or Lamborghini, or even a Bentley for that matter. True, many dealers are marking them up above msrp, because they can, and people will pay for it...but my dad is buddy buddy with the owner of a certain dealership and as such, paid sticker. (and I think that's around 120k or so) But he traded in his 07 C4S Cabrio which had a similar sticker shock.

SO, like I said, in the grand scheme of things, not too crazy for the class of car it now belongs to. It's just the rarity of the R8 that makes it that much more special.

And for a sidenote: Like many (not all) with $, he's worked extremely hard for it, and at 61, he deserves his toys!

And Kenchan...I don't have any other photos of his ride, but as soon as I can I'll post some. (You gotta see how the engine compartment lights up when the headlights come on! -- which is visible under glass fyi)

DSG / R Tronic...you say tomato I say tomAto! Whichever it is, it's pretty damn fun to drive!

And that's not glare in the headlights...those LEDs are the daytime running lights! SICK

Which is much more fuel efficient! And better for our fragile environment!

Wow, the insight is way more progressive than a Prius and rarer! That R8 is sweet and does look like an incredible way to loose your license quickly.

My Dad is driving a Sienna -left over from his real estate semi-retirement career. I think my MCS has him wanting something with some attitude again - He had an 81 Datsun 280ZX when I was young and passed off to me when I was in College-we both miss that one.

I believe it's got the same V-8 out of the RS4, just a with different engine cover and midship mounting.

My wife and I were driving through Philly on our way home from vacation and passed a silver/silver R8 there. Droooooolll. Coincidently, later that night on Top Gear they had the segment where Jeremy drove the R8 and loved it!

I saw one on the freeway a while back before it was officially released to the public. It was a helluva surprise. LA Auto had one in white that was truly stunning.

The mags say it's gonna give Porsches a scare.

Well...compared to the 07 C4S Cabrio he had before this, there's NO comparison.

i didnt know that the engine compartment lights up with the headlights. thats awsome. im not sure if RTronic is the same as DSG. and from what i hear, those LED's really add alot when you see it in person, the S6 has a similar daytime running light set up. it is the same motor as the RS4 but from what i have read, with the amount of room left in the engine compartment we could see the R8 S-line (rumors of twin turbo's or a version of the Gallardo V10 similar to what is in the S6/S8). and you are correct in that the R8 isnt all that expensive when compared to its compared to its competition. but i do like the fact that it is in the hands of someone that has a respect for the car. and i am interested in the side blad shots as well, i have only seen shots of the light blue with aluminum.

That car is amazing. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the first picture. My dad drives an 06 xB and a denali. Not as cool as that sweet thing.

Yeah, it's the same light setup as the S6 and the newly released S5 which is also an awesome ride!

I will post more detailed pics as soon as I can, but I live in Austin, and he lives in Dallas/Ft. Worth so the next time I'm up there, I'll snap some. Gimme a couple weeks, but I'll get it done!
