~ ~ 1-Series: Official Pics ~ ~
gabe.
thanks for the info!
we just need to get some more recent info/pic's of the car now!
i kinda doubted that they would market a car so close in price to the mini.
i guess the money will goto bmw either way!
this is one of the few forthcoming cars that i'm keeping my eye on!

OK, up on TCC today, latest spy-shots of the 1-series. Pass the puke bucket, ughk!

Power will come initially from four-cylinder engines only: a 120-hp, 1.8-liter four, a 2.0-liter four with 160 hp, and two diesels at 115 hp and 150 hp. Later on a turbo version of the gasoline four-cylinders delivering 220 hp is expected.
Yeah, I'm going to agree with Gabe about thinking the fender flares are less pronounced in real life and that part of that is an artifact of the lighting/roadsalt on the car.
Those Headlights:
Hopefully some of that orange area is still just masking, because if that's the way the production turn signals are, I am not a fan. It makes the headlights look like eyes with streaky cheap make-up. I could easily see aftermarket clear lenses being a very popular mod.
Strangely, I'm actually liking the 1-series more and more.

I can't help it - I'm repulsed!
ops:
It looks like a boat from the side, and some wide-eyed clown from the front! Ok, there is one positive; I dig the roofline, actually from the belt-line up, I enjoy it.
yea, that front end looks like a dog that's a bit too happy to see you, yikes!

I thought the front end resembled those "scary eyes in the dark" from the opening of Scooby Doo.
The four-door hatch above leaves me absolutely cold. Especially the intersection of the rear 1/4 glass, the roof rail, the C pillar, and the angle of the backlite on the hatch, which looks nearly identical to the rake of the old Golf IV.
And those wide, flat, vertical surfaces on the outer lips of the wheelhouses should be banished to the realm of automotive cliches.

I think I'm in love . . . . . Oh, Damn, that's the gas pump.

Hey if Chris is looking for a new job, why not head to Cincinnati where he could coach the Bengals.

As far as the 1 series, I think it's ok. The 2-door hatchback (2-series?) looks nice. The 4-door hatch look like ca-ca. I think I remember reading there will be an M2 offered at some point.
I also read in the latest Roundel there may be a minivan based on either the 1-series or the new 5-series chassis.
Lauren, I have to admit that I snorted some beverage out of my nose when they called you a trailer trash *****.

Get your inbred *** out of here. All you're doing is being a ******* and trying to cause problems. This is a bmw forum, a forum for the 2002, 3 series, 5 series, 6, 7, 8, M, X and Z series bmw's. There are entire pages dedicated to your ONE LITTLE CAR. So if all you're going to do is try to start ****, go suck a ****.

I'd rather have it look like a Mazda3 than that crap at the top of the thread, BLUGH! BMW: can you say "redo-2002"? (hint-hint)
Anyway, there seems to be a disparity on 1 and 2 series powertrains. One side says all four-bangers, and the other side says all inline-6's. Obviously, I would LOVE to have a 130i, however, I just can't see that happening. I envision 116i, 118i, and 120i (any special turbo designation? - historically BMW just up's the "displacement" i.e. 1984 745i) So, the battle begins...
125i and 130i
OR
116i, 118i, and 120i[t]

new idea; what about if the 1-er got the 2.0L and 2.5L inline-sixes, and not the bigger 3.0? That would work for me - smooooove BMW inline-6, it would not overpower the 3-series, and did I mention an inline-6 would RULE?
about that pic above - look at the rear window! You wouldn't be able to roll it down more than 3 inches until it hit the wheelwell arch. Other than that technicality, I do like the styling (even if the tail-lamps are Subaru, lol)

that's what I thought until I saw this recent spy photo next to the same rendering:

For the original owner who has warranty coverage it'll probably be cool
to have, but for the 2nd or 3rd owners who will have to pay labor
out of their own pocket will go through hell. even if the car's a cheep
ecno-bmw, their labor is top notch.

Well, it looks nicer than the 318, at least.
I'm confused, though. Y'all say that the US won't get the hatchback (which SUCKS!). But are these photos above of the hatch, or a wagon? Are we only going to get the sedan version?
Gabe, nice wagon!!!

to answer your question I believe this is the 5 door hatch.
And let me say wow - really liking the front end details. The photos (not the last two renderings) look fantastic.

I agree, the latest pics are quite good looking. I am, however, still a bit bothered at the "peeled back eyes" of the large front turn lamps. I can already picture Kamei whipping up prototype "eyebrows" to tighten the look to a more traditional BMW "squinty-eyed" look.
ooh, that color....I'm such a softie for Steel Blue

wow....
the pic's look great!
i bet the sedan will look like a baby 7 series, which will be fantastic.
now i just need to see some real pics of the 2 series coupe!!
my decision to get another mini is getting much more difficult.

At least for me, those last two pictures were confirmation that the 1-series is going to turn out nice and not another polarizing design.
That 1-series looks awesome. Sign me up for the first part of the 2nd model year (not so fond of all the teething issues with my 2002 MINI).
