driving the puppy.

Hey,
I've had my english bulldog for awhile now.. usually I put my two back seats down and lay out towels since Teeto (the puppy) sheds like crazy. Although it works fine, Is their a more practical way to do this? He's a pretty BIG puppy and he gets a bit nervous in the car. He doesn't move around so much, but he can't really sit still for long periods of time either..

I know there's poochstyle.com mats which look great, just wondering if you guys know of any others? or other techniques

Here he is..

What a handsome fellow! I want an English sooo badly, but couldn't give a doggie the attention it would deserve.

Experts will chime in, but your current method can be thrown right in the washing machine!

If you can possibly fit a crate in the back you should try. He would be much safer if you have a crash, or even when stopping fast. Otherwise, look at AutoEverything.com. They have some good solutions for keeping the car clean.

is that a wooden crate? would that hit your head if it turns into a projectile in an accident? sure your dog is safe, but you might be missing your head?

If you have been to the Dragon perhaps you have seen us with Merlyn my wifes yellow lab. Anyway my wife got me a PoochStyle.com mat at the Dragon this year. I must say I have been very happy with it. In addition when Merlyn rides in the Mini he has a dog seat belt on at all times. When he rides in my wifes minivan he rides in a plastic crate. That being said the crate is strapped down so in the event of fast stops or an accident it is much less likely to move and hurt us or him. If you are interested it the seat belt I think she got it from the local pet store or possibly through a dog supply catalog. Good Luck.

Your dog is gorgeous! I want one of those so badly, but we have white furniture and everyone I know that has one says they really do shed like mad.

Thanks, we think so. He is special.

And YES they do shed. With that being said most yellow labs are very light in color so maybe it would not be to bad for you. Daily brushing dose help reduce shedding. Also S. Cal. is not as hot as some areas which may help some.

If by chance you do decide to get a dog though, Do Your Homework, don't buy from a pet store. We can also recomend some breeders if you get that far.

When we drove a Civic hatchback we used a crate like this

Then we strapped and bungie corded down so that it didn't move. It stayed in place with a 100# dog when the wife rear ended a minivan.

That is the type crate my wife has in the minivan. We use a ratchet type tie down rather than the bungee cord, personal preference you know. I just think it holds a bit better.

Great Dog!

Hi, I love your dog, but even more am happy with this thread. My wife and I are thinking about getting a Lab and were worried about how he or she would be able to fit in our MINI. Glad there are a number of options!

Merlyn fits great in the back seat of our Mini. Of course he isn't to go anywhere without his seatbelt on. He dose go on trips with us in the Mini. On occasions I have my suitcase on end on the other side of the back seat up tight to the outside of the Mini and Merlyn has plenty of room to move around as he needs.

Merlyn is a male and weighs in about 85# and is about 24" at the shoulder. That being said Merlyn is on the large side but within the standard. He is kept on the thin side as he is a working dog as well as my wifes mobility dog.

PM to follow.
