Mercedes Split Headlight

Last night I had a dream about Mercedes cars and in that dream I learned why certain MB's have split headlight designs (i.e. E class). The reason made perfect sense, but I can't remember it now. Does anyone know if there is a reason beyond beauty that MB did/does this in their cars???

I know this sounds weird, just trust me.

It's a styling nod to the Benz's of the 50-60's. Those cars had the main headlight and often a driving lamp inside of the main lights and flanking the large grill's of that area. The design was actually seen on the 300 models of the late 30's. Due to a rather unpopular political party of that time that brought on the bombing of the MB factories when the company rebuilt post war the 300 design was updated and re-introduced as new cars in the 50's Those 300's of the 50's-especially the cabriolet's are some the most elegent cars ever built-and they where built by hand. Clark Gable owned a few. Now you can expect to pay BIG money for a 300 of the 50's and even the 220,250,280and 300's of the 60's are up in the six figures these days! My 00 E320 has this light configuratiuon and it's one of my favorite styling touches. The larger outside light have the low beams and turn signals and the inside, smaller lights have the parking lights and the high beams.

Yeah that's one of the best features of E320, having Mercedes E320 parts like its light configuration that's quite unique to other models.
