Driving Lamps & the CHP
Hi you to all Calif MINI owners.
I did not know where to Post this so I put it here.
What are California's regs regarding uncovered driving lamps and fog lamps? I am planning a trip through the Bay area and then on south to San Diego, from Seattle. Love to know your thoughts!
Thanks in advance.

It appears that the MINI's factory fogs are way below the 24 inch required minimum and the factory driving lamps are also to low since the bottom edge of the lamps are 23 inches. An officer with a tape measure and a headache could cause grief!!
So the foggiest part of my trip (southern I-5 and the big Sur Coast) I will not be able to use Fogs. Whoopee for California for creating an unsafe condition with the stroke of a pencil!
Driving Lamps & the CHP
I believe the OEM front fogs have an exemption, for CA, on height much like the pre-05 rear fog lights did.
I didn't realize the factory installed driving lights. You would think they would have an exemption as well and be legal.
My guess is if you have just two extra lights you'll most likely be okay. Just bring a pair of caps in case.
Having said that this is California so all bets are off.
Enjoy the ride!

LOL! Yes, the late great state of mind called California!
I was escorted to a local PD so the officer could get a tape measure and his code book to go over my '59 Bugeye Sprite in 1964, and I doubt that that sort of mentality has changed
Thanks again for the input. I will throw in a couple of pairs of Hella Caps, and maybe a case of doughnuts
