I'm pretty sure we got his plate, haven't had a chance to go over
the video footage yet though. Good news is my insurance covers
my windshield and I'm getting a whole new one Saturday morning.
Too bad my insurance doesn't cover rock chip damage...

Make sure that you get the Black plastic trim replaced also, as they will break some of the clips during removal. If they use the old trim they will fly off later, I have had this happen and you can not drive with these removed, it sucks the rubber window trim out, and the door window is not supported.

Just my $0.02, Good luck

Seeya, this is a professional company that has replaced no less than 2
other windshield for the family cars. How likely is this to happen that
they'll not replace black trim or break and not fix the broken clips?

It would TOTALLY SUCK (and be a little funny) to be motoring along
slam on the breaks and have your windshield pop right off and land in
the bed of a pickup truck in front of the Cooper.

Technical: It's weird, the crack wasn't there right after the incident. It
showed up the next day. Even weirder, you can't feel the crack on either
side of the window. Clover (UKDragon) just how large has it grown now?

I had mine replaced by Saftlite autoglass (large company) 2 weeks after the repair I was driving one let lose, Mobile came out a repaired it a few weeks later then the other let lose, so back out comes the mobile. Total repair time to get fixed was about 6 weeks.
The problem is they do not have these in stock, and the chances of breaking are very high (>75%).
The Windsheild will not fall out, the trim is not holding the windsheild in only the rubber seal around the door windows The problem is if the trim comes of, the rubber around the door windows will come out causing the door window to lose support.

Good luck tomorrow.

My windsield was replaced by MAZ in San Francisco. I watched the guy install it and asked him about the pillar trims. He said if the trims are removed properly in the first place, then there should be no problems with them flying off. He has done 10-12 MINIs and has yet to break a clip or loose a trim "In Flight". I had even gone and bought new clips just in case. Didn't need them.

Thanks for the info. My window got replaced Saturday. They were really
professional, and I saw them remove and replace the trim. These people
have done 3 other cars in the family over the years, so I don't think my
window will be flying off
