re-chroming wheels
not a good idea
re-chrominig wheels isnt a very good idea, because everytime you chrome a wheel, the wheel loses strength. The best way to go is to get another set of wheels and have them powder coated chrome at Pacific Rims in Pittsburg. They look extacly like chrome and dont effect the strength of the wheel, and the powdercoat chrome can be repaired if needed. I have some 17" S-lites no tires for sale($100) if you want to go that route. The wheels are in perfect cond.
I second the recommendation to PacRims in Pittsburg, my dealership (MINI of Concord/BMW Concord) works extensively with them, and they do top-notch work.

As far as losing strength when re-chroming, I do believe that powdercoating does involve subjecting the rims to heat, which some feel will cause the rims to lose strength as well.
We are talking about cast wheels though, so it isn't as crucial as when working with forged wheels (SSR, Volk, etc.)

Another good company for wheel re-finishing is Wheel Techniques in San Jose:

I personally have had excellent experience with them for serious wheel re-straightening and repair, in addition to refinishing.
