How about an Anniversary MINI Meet - Sunday November 2, 2003
Yello,
Sounds smart - especially since I have never been to Plum Island!?
EDIT:
Rethink ... I don't know the route from MOP to Plum Island.
But I am concerned about places to stop on that route.
The great thing about route 127 to Rockport is lots of places to stop and admire the view - which is what I hope for the drive.
BTW: just a reminder that this will be a PARADE type drive; the route is residential with many lower speed limits and very few twisty bits. There will be regular stops to gather and admire the views (weather permitting).

(repeated from MINI2)
Drove the "idea route" today ... got to Stage Fort Park to check they will be open (that was a planned restroom stop - we all know how important that is!)
Anyway, Sunday November 2 is a bike race (www.ecvcycling.org) so there will be little or no access to the park.
On top of that, the cut bridge (which takes route 127 into Gloucester) is being worked on and will be open - so you can't get into Gloucester that way
So there will be a few doubling backs, and less restroom stops ... maybe everyone will have to "hold on" from start to finish ...
On the good side - make that GREAT side:
Martin (Manager at MINI Peabody) will open the dealership between 10am and 10:30am on Sunday November 2 specially for us!
So the current plan now will be to target meeting at the dealership about 10:30, for a planned exit around 11am.
I have scrapped the "go to Staples and gather again" plan - we will do the route initially the same as last year, along highway to 128 exit 17 ... this gives us two lanes to collect all the MINIs together, after leaving the dealership ... seems far easiest way to do it!
Route distance estimated between 50 and 60 miles. Almost all semi-residential with speed limits between 20 and 40. A number of nice view places to stop and take photos.
Comments/criticisms NOW, before I get too far along the "wrong" plan ...
(not investigated anything about a second route after Woodmans ... yet ...)
PS:
Keith (one of the MINI Peabody sales people) knows Woodmans and will put in a word in the hope that we can have a private "upper deck" at the restaurant!

Ian: Plum Island is aprox. 10 miles north of mini peabody just off u.s. rt.1.
Really wouldn't require a stop between the two. Just several traffic lights on the way.
We would easily keep the convoy intact enroute. From there, Woodmans is only
about 10 miles on u.s. rt. 1A south to u.s.rt.133 east. Also a route free of traffic lights.
I just made this suggestion because Danvers (rt 62)into Beverly to Rt. 127 is a traffic light nightmare and group convoy will split into multiple factions.
Including Plum Island was a brilliant idea(scenic) but your the boss, just trying
to assist. Thought running it backwards would be cool...but...your the man...

Yello,
Agree with you about 62 to 127 ...
How about if I stick with the 127 drive to Woodmans, and *YOU* invite and lead people around Plum Island after food?
Assuming anyone WANTS to drive more after stopping for food?????
What do you think?
ALSO:
With the event not targetted for Sunday November 2, meeting at MINI Peabody at 10:30am and looping around Cape Ann to end at Woodmans at a guesstimated 2-3pm, I am hoping to get a head count together ... please let me know.
Thanks.

Ian: I totally agree with your plan.
Please count my head (and wife) in your head count.(2)
I'm suprised more people have'nt responded to this
drive. It seems like N.E. Mini owners are
reluctant to get togethers for some unknown reason.
Anyway, I am here to assist you if need be.
Your Mini is the nicest car I have seen to date.
Julian at Sublime does beautiful work. I love
your "painted" Union Jack.
And GBMINI is a great website. I check it every few days for updates.
Keep up the good work...

Yello,
THANK YOU for the compliments and the offer to help ...
Don't know about NE MINI owners not getting together ... what about:
MINIsOnTop?
Or the recent MAMA drive?
I have received some "yes" messages by email from people that did the drive last year ... if you check out the MINI2 thread you will see more activity - I think this is primarily because MINI2 has the facility to send an email when the thread is updated, which keeps everyone reminded of what is going on.
The MINIsOnTop event back in the summer, and last weekends MAMA drive, were both organized successfully on MINI2.
Last years drive was organized primarily here on MCOL, but I see more activity on MINI2 than here recently ... or maybe I am just not looking here enough!
UPDATE:
I have put up a web page to keep track of this event - for now it has a sign-up list of people that have confirmed they will make the event ... please let me know if you are not listed but will be coming. And if you give me a web link to a pic of your car, I will put it there too
I will "fill in" the page over the next two weeks, with directions, etc.
NOTE: Some people emailed me early to say "yes" - I have not added them to the page till I get re-confirmation, due to the Saturday/Sunday confusion.

Wow, I really need to check this forum more often. Unfortunately I probably can't make this. I'm going up to Portland ME for a Halloween party next Friday night, and the likelihood of me hanging out up there until Sunday is fairly high. I swear, my life isn't really THAT busy; I just always seem to have something going on whenever a meet is planned!
UPDATE: For those not active on MINI2 ...
Keith (sales councilor at MINI Peabody) has proposed to take over the after-lunch activities ... he lives in the area of Woodmans and knows many good routes.
I expect that his drive will be more "exhilarating" ... if you like that sort of thing please let him know

If you wish to review the route before next Sunday, you can check out my first pass on this page.
I have not yet repeated the route to check final distances, so they are subject to change.
And sorry for the size & quality of the "maps" - what a pain that was!
We have 25+ MINIs signed up tonight - a very good number!

For anyone that is not watching the MINI2 thread ...
Keith has proposed a second drive of an hour or so, for after (late) lunch at Woodmans. It is likely to be a little quicker than "my" route, since the roads are less residential.
Keith would appreciate feedback from anyone that wants to do the second drive; please see the MINI2 thread and let him (or me) know.
