Just got this installed.

Last night I had this installed as an answer to the Drive+Play VS. MP3 Player VS. iPOD link

It ROCKS!!!!

Also I drive a CR/W. It allows you to change the display colors to RED!!!!!!!!

Anyone interested in aftermarket stereos should take a serious look at this!

Even though the price lists at $450.00 Best Buy has it for $399.00

Can you change the illumination to amber to match the 2002-2006 dash color? How deep is the unit? Is is more shallow that a typical in dash unit considering it has no CD mechanism? Does it display video from iPod Video units?

Post a personal review after about 30 days use. Miss the CD at all?

Cheers-
Randy

Can you post a photo of it installed? I'd like to see how it looks in the center stack.

Blue and Red button illumination only, but you can change the backround picture that is behind the album cover and track title. There are even downloadable pics for it as well.

Never got to see it out of the box. Sorry. Can't answer this one.

I have a NANO. Not sure wether it does this. It wasn't a selling option for me. I would have to say I doubt it though.

I look at it this way. You can put 700MB of MP3s on a CD. You can put 4GB of music on an iPOD. Why would anyone need both? I do not nor will not miss CDs

Yeah, I saw this in a magazine today, and decided I have to have it. I bought an iPod interface a few weeks ago, but the features of this head unit are incredible. Full iPod functions. I went this afternoon to Best Buy and saw it in person, and it's even sweeter in person. I, also, like the red/blue color options. There is a video about the unit here: (At 17:00) http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=iDA-X001〈=en&mode=&play=32
I will probably sell my JVC head unit, iPod interface and get this. Anyone know how hard it is to replace the h/k unit and connecting it to factory h/k speakers?

The iPOD hooks directly to a USB fast connect from the back. It's a relativley short cable so it's pretty non-intrusive and clean. As far as other MP3 players, I believe I read that it does but don't quote me on it.

I'm coming from stock. And it sounds awesome. Although most people will tell you that sound quality comes more from the speakers. I replaced my rear speakers with some Alpine 6x9 3 ways. But I did this the next day. It sounded just fine with the stock for the 12 hours or so before I replaces the speaks, but it seems more crisp and spatial now.

It will require an adapter though. It can't be done all at once. unless you have the adapter at the time of install. Best Buy doesn't carry them in stoc so it'll have to be ordered through them. It's about $70 to $80.

I recently installed this unit as well and have no problems. I also installed the bluetooth module ($200) as well and it works perfectly with my Samsung Blackjack. I do not miss the CD player since I have a 30GB ipod with all of my music.

I want one... anyone wanna trade their IDA-X001 for my CDA-9857? Anyway, this is definitely on my potential future upgrades list... after I upgrade my sub...

The red illumination is nice -- one of the things that I don't like about the 9857 (only blue...). How well does it match the MINI interior lights?

Pretty good. Considering that the interior lights are mostly orange it's not a perfect match, but certainly better than blue!

Is that a R56? If so what happens to the display on the speedo now? Will the factory BT still work (I have that)?

You can tell from the pics that it is an R53 dash and center stack.
