I thought I saw a post a little ways back and someone included a Mini schematic on how to remove the OEM headunit from the dash. Was I seeing things? I am trying to incorporate my Sirius Sportster replay into my R56. I am getting WAY to much radio distortion and will need to add the Directed Electronics FM radio booster piece. I need to get to the rear of the radio and in particular the antenna to install this piece into the radios antenna spot. Does anyone know yet how to remove?

 

Have you tried using the Aux connection instead? Lot less effort, I hear it has good sound.
I use the direct connection your talking about in my Jeep. Works great, sounds awesome, but the downside is I have to shutdown XM to switch to a regular broadcast station. Nothing but high pitched feedback with the unit on.
I bought a Sprtscaster for my wife's pending MCS. Plan to mount it down in that cubbyhole near the aux connection and operate it with the remote.

I don't see how the unit can play, doesn't the radio need to be turned onto channel 88.1 to recieve signal? If we use the aux port, then you can't use the radio at the same time. Maybe I'm missing something?

 

My bad, I was unclear.
I use the direct antenna connection in my Jeep (it doesn't have the snazy aux input), anyway, with the sportscaster on I cant change to another broadcast radio station.
Like I'm listening to channel 7, groovin' with KC & The Sunshine Band, and I want to catch the local weather forcast on 99.5 Kwhatever...anyway, if I change the radio to 99.5 all I get is static. First I have to turn off the sportscaster, then change radio stations. Done that way, no static.
With the MINI I will mount the sportscaster down low, in that little cubbyhole, and use the aux connection. Shouldn't have the static problem since 1) the antenna is patent all the way to the radio and 2) the aux system is a source selction (like the cd).
Hope that makes it clearer than mud.

Actually you were right on and I was wrong. I was under the impression as I stated above that I needed to keep the radio tuned to 88.1 and that would mean I couldn't have the Aux and the radio on at the same time. But as luck would have it, I had a cable and tried it out and lo and behold, it worked GREAT! I just tuned it to AUX and turned the power on to the unit and BOOOM! Pretty clear sound and I got my Howard Stern! All the stars are shining today! Thanks for the tip and reminder.
