2-way or 3-way speakers?

I have a 2006 MCS.

I am upgrading my stock speakers with Infinity Kappas
I have a 10" sub in the back already, but need better mids.

http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/p...aspx?SerId=KAP

I am thinking about getting 6x9's in the rear and 6-1/2" in the doors (or should i go with 5-1/4"?).

My question is, should I get 2way or 3way speakers?

Thanks,

Arty

I like the way that 6x9's and 6 1/2's sound together but that's just me.
I would defenitely go with 3-ways though.
Hope all goes well

Thanks Chris for your input

Whats the benefits going with 3-ways vs 2-way speakers?

Keeping in mind that I have a 10" sub already.

The sub that you have provides the lows. Any speaker 2 or 3 way will have some lows, but the 2 way provides a high range as well. The 3 way will have the lows mids and highs. So with the 3 ways you will get all three areas even though your sub covers the lows. I will be running three way JBL's all around with a 10" sub in a few weeks. I have seen this before and loved the way it sounds.

Three-ways typically have an even smaller 'super tweeter' for clean highs. If I was replacing everything, I might do components up front, sticking tweeters in the stock location and "1-way" 6 1/2"s in the door panels. Maybe 2 or 3 way in the back..

the infiniti component speakers didnt have high enough effeciency so I decided against those(or do you think 90db at 4-ohm is good enough?). I am going to keep a tweeter, either the stock or possible the kappa10.yt tweeter. (Is it worth it replaceing the stock tweeter?)

As of right now I am thinking about getting 3-ways in the back, and 2-ways in the front with a tweeter.

What would the cons/pros be for this? vs a different arrangement between 2/3-way speakers?

All these 2 way / 3 way business is basically dependant on the speaker manufacturer. Splitting an audio signal 2 ways or 3 ways requires them to make a circuit that does this correctly for the audio ranges of each speaker, and to balance the power correctly for the speakers so no audio range drowns out the rest.

All this will be personal preference. It is true that having more specialized speakers is key to achieving the type of response you want, you wouldn't like to have any speaker covering more of the range than it should. That said, the impact is more more pronounced when you split the range with a true mid, as in a 3 way component set. Most of the 3-way 6 x 9 's have a tweeter and higher tweeter, so there is a difference, you just have to decide if that difference is what you want and is worth whatever the price difference is. I personally think rear speakers are secondary to good fronts, and replacing the stock tweeter would end up with a more pronounced effect.
