Navigation & Audio iPod Connector
That would make "artists" useless to me, too!
So if you don't have the sat/nav... it's all going to me displayed on the two or three line led strip in the speedo?
New Winner..
Well, we may have a new winner here... I just picked up my '07 last night (pictures coming soon). The dealer quoted me $1000 to install the iPod adapter!
Considering I'd been on the waiting list since September of last year (mine is one of the first automatic MCS), I'm not real happy about this development.

Yea it sounds like a neat feature being able to control it through the steering wheel, but it just doesnt serve the functionality that controlling it through the actual ipod itself does....ill save myself the 300-800$ and go through the aux.
Poor execution by Mini with the pricing and info.

My MA called me last Friday 4/6 and asked me if I still wanted the ipod hookup done, having quoted around $570 installed. I passed, and picked up the car the next day

I tried an FM transmitter with an Acura Integra. Horrible quality. Not worth listening to.
The other alternative with the R56 is to play mp3 CDs.
I believe both the standard and HIFI radio in the R56 have an AUX input. Not sure about the convertible (it is really an older model).

THANKS for the help. I think we will look at using the AUX input.

Do you have any playlists with more than 255 titles? Do they all show up on the iPod interface?
iPod adapter - crazy pricing
We just ordered our S this morning
I called to ask about the iPod adapter because I figured it can easily be installed at the factory.
$995 dealer installed.
What!!!
Is this some scam to give the dealers more profit. I understand everyone has to make a buck but my dealer said they have to diassemble the half the dash and the steering column. That doesn't sound right.

One of my best friends who was a BMW Mechanic is a now at my Mini Dealer. She said that it is a huge pain in the butt to install the Ipod Adapter. She has done about 3 and it takes around 5 hours or so. A while ago she offered to install it for me and now she has taken back that offer. I guess it is just that bad. Anyways I will be using the Aux method, just like I did in my old car.
Hi-
Those install prices are insane. My dealer is putting the iPod adaptor in on our Mini for $385. Its worth it at that price but I would never pay the crazy prices some of you were quoted. I think there are a bunch of Mini dealers who have scams like this going on. I don't care how long it takes to put in the adaptor. When you are paying MSRP for a car it shouldn't matter.

Are you paying $385 just for the installation or does that include parts also? If all you are paying is $385, then that's the best price I've heard of for a R56 ipod adapter install which is totally worth it - anything more than that is too hard to justify IMHO.
That includes the price of the part.
The dealer is South Mini in Miami FL. I live in Tampa and recently emailed all the dealers in the state asking for their best "out the door" price with the options we wanted. South Mini gave us the best price so we ordered from them. We paid MSRP. They didn't charge a destination fee ($650), the salesman made a "mistake" configuring (said he hadn't included the premium sound system in the price he quoted) the car so we threatened to go to another dealer, and he dropped the dealer fee ($499)...Oh and we got the free mats too...
By contrast, our local dealer in Palm Harbor refused to budge the price or any fees. Had higher fees. Wanted much more for the iPod adaptor. Said that any car that they sold had to have the paint guard ($1000), but they could work with us on that. And advised us that if we didn't buy from them they wouldn't provide us with a loaner car if we tried to have the car serviced with them....They really wanted our business....
This is our first Mini so we were leary of paying MSRP for any car but after reading many forums I feel like we got a good deal. I can't wait to go pick up the car next month and motor over to South Beach for a Mojito!
BTW, my earlier post was my first post...I've been meaning to post in the welcome forum for a bit but haven't gotten around to it. I've been reading these forums for months though. I was searching for information on the ordering process when I saw this thread. Our order is missing fog lights and the leather seats in the Mini Owners lounge site but apparently it isn't uncommon for orders to be incorrect for the first couple of days...Anyway, good luck getting your iPod adaptors on the cheap. I think it is worth it at the price we paid just for the added safety of being able to control your iPod from the steering wheel.

I think any iPod install also requires a software upgrade for the car as well. I haven't heard of anyone installed the OEM kit through anyone but a dealer.
With a $499 dealer fee, my dealer's 389 fee isn't sounding quite so bad!
