How to change voices without hacking the map disc

Hi all,

I have a BMW E39 but the nav system is the same as the BMW New Mini.

I have a small app called NavCoder which properly sets the languages in the vehicle.

So you can choose whichever language you want on your nav sytem, and the nav system then correctly loads the language from the nav system OS CD.

No hacking of the map disk required.

My app sends the same command as the BMW DIS system to tell the car what language is required.

Note that the language change means the nav system needs to read the new language files from the OS, so you must have an OS present.

I'll upload the file here

Jochen

Do you simply connect via the OBD connector?

No, I connect direct to the I-Bus

I made an I-Bus to RS232 adapter, and used the I-Bus.
There's a cct diagram in my zip file, simple with only 2 transistors.

Not sure if the OBD conenctor supports the same I-Bus protocol. Anyone know?

But you can access the I-Bus in many places in the car - it's on the radio, CD player, nav unit, and many other places.

I use crocodile clips to make the connection :-)

Very slick!

I noticed in the application that you also have the region setting. Can that be changed as well? This would be very useful to me as I am in Germany right now (military) and would love to be able to flip between US and Europe modes.

OK, I tried it with the OBD and it did not work. I'll try making that connector later. It is a little harder for me here in Germany as I have to locate an electronics shop.
