Double Din

The forum's got some threads about this, but no one has installed an actual double din headunit. Is it possible?

One project by Little_Red_Tomato installed an LCD control screen, but this is different from a double din because it doesn't have the depth. Another NAM'er tried, but mentioned that the AC blower gets in the way of the double din headunit.

Looking for a final word... Can it be done? Who's done it?

Doubtful, the fitment is all wrong.

For example, people have put in pioneer avic2s where the LCD screen folds out and up and obscures the bottom on of the Speedo ... not the best solution while the avic1, I believe, is double DIN

This can't be done. That is unless you do not want any controls to your heater and AC. The controls have complicated arms which control all the vents in the dash and cannot be moved. I have looked at it a lot since I hate the flip outs and think they ruin the entire interior. My solution (complicated) was to place a motorized 1/2 Din video only screen behind the speedo and come up through the dash (infront of the dash vent). There is enough room, its just cutting through the dash, which the best installer in boston would not do. I am instead currently working on a custom tomtom install that will drop everyones jaw. Good luck!

hmmm... coming up from the dash, eh? That sounds pretty cool if it'd work.

Would love to see your TomTom install when you're done... so maybe I can steal your ideas!
