Does it really save that much manufacturing cost not to display a track's elapsed time on the OEM CD head units? The pixels are already there on the display!!! There's plenty of space to the right to show it!

I searched the radio manual, but couldn't find anything on how to turn on a elapsed time display. I know it's a stretch, but is there some secret procedure to enable this???!?!

Sorry I can't answer your question - but I do share your frustration. This is probably one of the biggest annoyances of the stock HU to me.

Another vote here for the annoying "no elapsed time display"!!!
I was gonna complain that there's no CD-TEXT either, but nevermind

Timelessly Motoring-on,

This also bothers me! I love listening to CD's in my Mini but it so annoying that theres no elapsed time display. In my mom's BMW the head unit is similar but i dont remember if it shows the elapsed time.

First, I don't mean to devalue your opinions on the elapsed time but....

Is it really an issue? What do you use it for? Personally I'm more concerned about the aux input but I never even noticed the lack of an elapsed time when playing cd's.

I get useful information from the time display: how long the track is, and therefore, next time I listen to it, when it will be finished. This is also critical when I test out mixes I do (amateur DJ) "on the road", I need to check where I am in the mix beyond just a track number. Implimenting an elapsed time display requires pennies more in output driver circuitry, and with the H/K I would expect this at least. It's a seemingly small fault, but it's something that I'll miss everytime I use the radio, which is 99.9% of my time in the car!

Cheers,
Ryan

H/k

Can anyone who has the Harmon Kardon system tell me if the HK unit displays elapsed time on track?

Nope, sorry... it doesn't. Wish it did, as well as time remaining (which I prefer anyway).

Just a quick FYI. The headunit is the same between the stock stereo and the HK upgrade. The HK upgrade adds an amp/dsp and some different speakers. That's all.

Wow I thought I was the only one that wondering about that.
The only reason I would like something on there like the elapsed time, is seeing "TK 1" just sitting there static is so damn boring.

We've got huge center gauges... then just boring old "TK 1", ugh....

I have to agree with Daytona on this. I mean minus the DJ thing what is the point? How is knowing a track is 2 minutes long affecting your listening pleasure? I don't look at my head unit when the music is playing and I sure don't care how long the track is going to last. The radio never shows the track time and I am sure everyone here listens to that.

Now track names would be nice (and the radio DOES do that)
