Spoon,
You've got it. I don't have the changer so my left middle button is dead. However, the mult-function wheel is the single most useful option that I got on my Cooper. For me, worth the Premium Package price alone. Hey, I gotta free sunroof with that deal!

I don't have the CD changer either (yet), but the dealer told me that the middle button on the left was for the built in cell phone option. It would be way cool if it was for the CD changer. Anybody know which it is for? Is it a dealer programmable option?

JimmerO,

What cell phone option? I asked my dealer if the Mini had a steering wheel cell phone option and was told no.

My dealer told me that the middle button on the left side of the steering wheel was for the phone option, as well as the oval bump opposite of the sun roof button on the roof. I think I read here on MCO that the phone option isn't available yet though.

The only thing that bugs me about the stock CD player is that you can't display the running time of the track you're listening to. A lot of the music I listen to, especially jazz and experimental rock/electronic stuff, has some seriously long tracks, and I sometimes want to know if I'm at minute 5 or minute 18.

Sounds great, although I find it's a little bit too easy to overload the speakers on bassy stuff. I was listening to Mogwai when I noticed this - long, extended instrumental rock that sounds great loud (unless your speakers buzz).

I am a big fan of having quality audio. In my car I had BM (before MINI) I had a Pioneer, with two 10" woofers in the boot. I was so sure that I would need to switch that system into the MINI. However, I don't see the need for it now that I am motoring. The stock system is great. The lights match the rest of the interior at night, it doesn't have some funky fit box around it like my Pioneer, and it recieves station transmitted song info on it. eg. It displays the call letters, the type of music, and in some cases the songs name. My Pioneer never did that, and the stock sounds (almost) as good! It is less power, only 4x20, but for the smaller dimensions, it works fine! I think 99% of the owners will be happy with it. The quality is equal to Alpine, so I don't doubt that claim at all.

For me the stock radio/CD combo is just fine. I've found that adjusting the Fader to bias the front speakers two clicks, turning up treble two clicks and turning down bass one click makes for real good sound.
