And yeah, it's pretty slow, and my iPod freezes every now and then and you'll have to reboot it. For the cash I paid I wasa expecting something better, oh well. Still though, the sound and that stuff is great! It just isn't very easy to handle and use the iPod fully.

I'm not happy with how slow the scroller is....I get around that with play-lists. Actually, I don't often go searching for an artist when I'm driving. I have different playlists with different types of music for different moods.
I've never had any problem with the ipod freezing. I've taken it on a 14 hour drive and had no probs...
I'm not unhappy with any other aspect though, really. I'm not sure how different the screens are compared to the normal-style head-units...

The customers' ratings are pretty high and I thing this is the best solution at this point. You can read reviews here
The image below shows how I was going to install it. It's done in Photoshop.

Also, the control **** is larger and taller. It would stick out of your steering wheel about 2". Not to metion the wiring hell you'd go through to get it through your steering wheel. I did see that the control **** mounts on a circular plate with 4 holes. 3 for the mounting screws and 1 larger one for the wiring. I wish they came up with a remote/bluetooth option for the control ****.

They have at least 3 connection options, 1: FM tranmitter (air), 2: FM tranmitter (wired through your antenna) or 3: through your AUX input if you have one.

i FINALLY got my nano mount from www.xtrememac.com. i love it except it doesn't shut the nano off when the car is shut off (like the belkin adapter would do.)
i've tried quite a few different mounts in my MINI for the ipod and this is the best by far (IMHO).

Just been outside and fitted my i-pod to my car
I had to go the FM ice link route as I have an after market Sony MD HU with a Sony 6 cd changer (which I didnt want to loose) 2 amps and all upgraded speakers. I originally went this route because the MINI option MD HU wouldnt do LP (although they do now) and this much superior system was better and cheaper than going the HK with MD route!
I also have a fully intergrated phone kit Guess I must like my ice hey
Anyway the FM ice link was quick and easy to install and so far sounds great.
Here's a few pics!

I'm looking into this very seriously since
I could have all the functionality of Mac and play DVD's etc...
I know it's not for everyone plus is more $$$
but I've seen some incredible installations
just wanted to know what you guys think about this

Charles

Great Solution For The NANO
Just received and installed the Griffin Tuneflex for my black Nano. Works great, charges perfectly, and the audio cable plugs in under the audio stack where I put the AUX input. Sound is excellent. I used a black cable tie to secure it to the right most ring on the toggle switch bank and it's absolutely locked into place.

Go fo it!
especially now that the Macmini's come with Front Row
I'm waiting to see about the new Macmini's with Intel inside
maybe I'll be able to run a good GPS that works on Intel processors
plus iron out a few quirks that i need first.
I'll post pictures ASAP
very exciting project.

A little OT but do you have more pictures of those gauges next to your tach? Also where did you get them?

Dude, the car is so dirty I had to use a lot of blurring to cover it all up.
Relative to the gauges I only have one other picture that includes these. You can find it at http://www.taylorsmith.biz/DSCN10801.JPG
They are nothing more than the OEM boost gauge and voltimeter, which I had my dealer throw on. They are overpriced and useless but fun nevertheless.
You can find some better pictures and the description here:

Motor On.

Navigation using the HK is very simple. It is just as if you were navigating directly on the IPOD, with the difference being that I can actually see it while I drive (and I can barely see anything without reading glasses anymore) thus making the roads safer for everyone.
In other words, I can keep looking directly ahead and still change my music. There are a number of options re: font size and scrolling and also brightness. The brightness doesn't bother me at night at all (I thought that it might). It is easily visible in almost all lighting scenarios (I thought it might look washed out in the sunlight, but it doesn't).
95% of my music source is IPOD driven so I rarely do FM radio or CDs anymore. Before having the DrivePlay interface I was limited to 99 songs on a playlist with the Mini HU interface (and in fact only to 5 playlists which had to be named in bizzare fashion). The HK has eliminated all those annoyances and given me access to my music again.
I have the navigation button under my handbrake - which works just fine. I can navigate without looking at it easily (since you're watching the screen ahead of you); however, it would have been nice to integrate it's nice blue light somewhere else - since it has a certain "cool" factor. Of course, to move it somewhere cool where it could be seen would mean it would be hard to reach.
In short, I like it. I have only one regret and that it is that I can see a little bit of the wire to the screen --- and I would prefer no cords at all. Eventually I will try to pick up the screen and see if I can manipulate the cord -- however, right now it's 3-M'd so nicely to the dash I hate to break the seal.
Hope that helps.
