Navigation & Audio has anyone tried this?
"Somebody on here (I can't find the thread now) asked about how to use an ipod with your cd player. Well...I went to the apple store and asked Jason in San Diego how he thought it might be done. He said a friend of his had a BMW and went to the dealer and asked if the existing cd player (in dash) had jacks on it to plugin the cd changer. The plugs look kind of like the kind of plugs for cable tv (I'm not too techie here sorry) If it does you can buy and audio adapter at the apple store (cheap) and plug it into the back of your in dash cd player and run the wiring under the carpet to the area near the shift ****/emergency brake or anywhere in the same general area and then plug in your ipod. It is way cheaper than the cd changer and it can go with you anywhere unlike the changer."
i found this old topic on ipods, and this seemed interesting, has anyone tried this? does it work?
i have an fm transmitter but it sucks.
also someone told me once that they make a holster for it that attatches into the lighter socket, anyone seen something like that?
thanks

I have done this with minimal effort (just some extra cost). There is a company called Blitzsafe that makes a connector for the cd changer input in the trunk (on the passenger side). Go to their website or call them. The part is about $80. It will connect to the CD changer wiring (it snaps in) and then you can run an RCA type wire from the trunk under the carpet or mats (behind the folding seats) to the front to your iPod which will sit in one of the cup holders in the front. The Blitzsafe part is specifically for MINI. When you change the function of your radio (from CD to Radio) it will have a new function called CD1-99. This will be your iPod. It sounds great because it is hard wired. I had an FM transmitter earlier and, I agree, they suck. I live in Providence, RI an my MINI is Indi Blue with everything except the NAV sytem. I am a Mac user and my iChat (AIM) id is bobbybina.
