Does anybody know if it is possible to power a small amp off the 12 volt power supply in the boot of a 2001 Mini Cooper

Depends. How much current does the amp you are looking to install pull? That would be a key determining factor as the wiring would need to be sufficient to carry that much current.

ops: So instead of buying first and bashing your forehead later with an open palm, it'd be wise to know the max continuous and peak amperage output of the jack. Once this is known, then buying an amp is the easy part...
