Make Your Garmin Quest Speak British For Your MINI

Hi All,

If any of you are using a Garmin Quest GPS unit in your MINI (http://www.garmin.com/products/quest/), you'll be happy to know that Garmin has just released a whole set of voice updates for the Quest and one of them is British English. Thus, you can now update the voice files on your Quest to the British ones and all of the routing directions will be spoken in British English instead of in the standard American English!

Note that there are plenty of other languages available as well, but the British English one is what's relevant to our British built MINIs.

Anyway...

In order to install the updated British English voice files in your Quest, you MUST be using the latest 3.40 firmware release (or greater). Here's the download link for the version 3.40 firmware update:

http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=615

To install the firmware update, all you have to do is plug your Quest (via its USB cable) into your computer, power it on, double-click on the "Updater.exe" program, and then follow the on-screen prompts in order to perform the firmware update on your Quest. Note that (by default) the "Updater.exe" program is installed into a folder named "C:\Garmin" when you first extract out the original firmware update file you've just downloaded.

However...

In order to update the voice files in your Quest (to the newer version 3.00 voices that were just released by Garmin), you have to run the "Updater.exe" program with a command-line parameter instead of just double-clicking on it like you did with the firmware update (otherwise it won't be able to locate the .RGN update file for some silly reason). To do this:

1. Download the Quest Audio British English software version 3.00 update file from here:

http://www.garmin.com/support/collec...t=010-00306-00

2. Extract the voice update file you've just downloaded into the default "C:\Garmin" folder by simply double-clicking on it.

3. Plug your Quest into your computer (via its USB cable) and power it on (MAKE SURE THAT IT HAS FIRMWARE 3.40 OR GREATER INSTALLED BEFORE PROCEEDING).

4. Select "Run" from your Windows Start menu and type the following command-line (including the quotes) into the Open field of the Run dialog box that appears:

C:\Garmin\Updater.exe "C:\Garmin\QuestAudioBritish300.rgn"

Be sure to replace the voice file name (QuestAudioBritish300.rgn) with the correct name for the language you are using if you've opted to use a different language. In this example, I've chosen the British voice files for use in my Quest as they're SUPER cool.

5. Follow the on-screen prompts in order to complete the update.

That's it! Enjoy having your Quest now speak to you in "proper" English...
