After many trials & tribulations, I've concluded that the OEM ipodyourmini will not work w/ an OEM HU that has cassette rather than CD. (In fact, Classic MINI was kind enough to fax me the service bulletin which says exactly that!!!) If I want to use the ipodyourmini option rather than ICE Link + for my 3rd gen iPod, I assume I'm going to have to change the HU. I was wondering if there was a market out there for OEM HUs w/ CD from when people take out the OEM to replace with their favorite Alpine, etc. If I could get a new HU for cheap, I could justify the ipodyourmini option. Until then, I guess I'm stuck w/ the cassette adapter.

 

I have a HU from a build date 02/2003; the AUX input works on it so presumably it works with the iPod thingy?

 

Does the HU have a cassette (rare) or the single CD (typical)? iPod thingy apparently works fine w/ HUs w/ CD, but will not interface w/ a HU that has a cassette? Weird. (In fact, my dealer got the entire iPod thingy installed before they learned this, so technically I have the iPod thingy installed, but can't use it -- fortunately, they didn't charge me for it.)
