Navigation screen and sunlight

Can anyone tell me how the Navigation screen does in the direct sunlight? I ask because today was the first day I spent driving a MCS Cabrio with the top down for the entire drive. I had a hard time seeing any of the digital readouts (radio, or onboard computer) in direct sunlight.

If I looked around my sunglasses it was readable but doing that took a lot of deliberate effort. Having not seen the Navigation yet in person I have no idea how well it will work. Aircraft display screens are specifically designed for easy viewing in direct sunlight so I know it can be done. I would imagine that with the hard top it might not be that big of a problem but with no roof it might.

Thanks in advance!

My wife's MCSC with Nav was out and about in the Florida sunshine today. Not a cloud in the sky! The display was brite and readable the whole time. Only thing that will make it dark is turning you head to the side wearing polarized sunglasses.

Thanks. What you described is what I was expecting but didn't know for sure.

Enjoy the sun!

Is there any chance that having our nav devices out there sitting in direct sunlight for periods of time could damage the units?

My Nav screen is perfectly readable with sunlight shining directly on it. When the amount of light on the screen overpowers the backlight, the screen reverts to being a 'passive' LCD that works with external light.

The nav screen and electronics are designed around withstanding high interior temperatures. No worry of having any damage due to excessive temps. If you are worried about this, find a light colored plastic lid that will fit inside the round display recess to act as a protector.
