Bad AM reception with Pioneer AVIC-N1

I bought the Pioneer AVIC-N1 from Crutchfield. Did the install myself with tons of help from Crutchfield and NAM.

Everything's fine, except the AM radio reception is so bad that it's useless. On Crutchfield's advice, I connected the "powered antenna booster", which did help a wee bit, bit the reception is still so bad that it's useless.

Does the AM radio work for anyone else with the Pioneer AVIC-N1? Did you do anything special to make the AM radio reception decent enough to actually listen to?

Pioneer Am reception stinks.

I can tell you from years of experence with Pioneer head units that hte AM tuner quite frankly sucks. I went through 5 different models before I got my mini in previous cars and all of them had that one flaw. Crappy AM, they have that Am radio wine that gets louder near power lines and in the rain. It also has that nice feture where the higher the RPM the worse the Altenator whine gets. I naever found a solution, I hope you do, but aftermarket radios most specifically Pioneer are known for Poor Am reception.
