BMW MK4 Navigation Drive in 2003 R53?
Hey guys,
I have been chasing a "please insert navigation disc" error message on my 2003 Mini Cooper S. I have confirmed that my MK4 DVD drive is broken and I purchased a MK4 Nav DVD player from a 2002 BMW 540i which has the same part number but when I plug it in all I get is a black screen in my Mini Cooper. Any ideas? Do I have to use a DVD drive from a MINI?
Thanks!
Will

MK3/MK4 navigation units are compatible, plug-and-play swap between BMW and MINI. A BMW unit will simply show a BMW instead of MINI logo at startup (this is firmware that can be reflashed). In theory it should have worked fine.
I'd like to make a clarification. From the factory, 2003 MINI had a MK3 navigation unit with CD drive (not MK4 with DVD drive). A 2002 BMW would also have the MK3 unit. The MK4 has a DVD logo in front. However, MK3 and MK4 units are plug-and-play compatible and swappable. The only incompatibility is that you can't use DVD map discs in the MK3 CD drive.
