Navigation & Audio Alpine iLX-F309 in 1st gen Mini?
Navigation & AudioBring your GPS and favorite CD or MP3. This is where navigation and audio options for the Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs are discussed.
ACCORDING TO THE RESEARCH I DID.. THE ALPINE HALO ILX F309 $999, F411 $999 AND F409 $699 FIT. I went onto crutchfield and it was confirmed. This is one unit that i am def going to get on my R52 2007. It looks amazing. It would be the only aftermarket thing i would put in my car. It is the going price everywhere... some places sold out. I am shopping for a used one .. but def is a cool unit
I'm working on a 2 Din conversion kit and should have some prototypes soon. Message me. The plan will be that it will come with the 2din adapter, stereo harness, and new (non-painted) columns to complete a fairly moderate install without a lot of cutting or time. I did the alpine stereo but couldn't see gas /temp gauges easily and also had a hard time seeing a/c controls. Cup holders are practically useless as it is so that is why I decided to get together with a local manufacture and make a 2 din conversion.
Late reply but I installed the Sony unit recently, fits well though the depth is a challenge with HK adapters and wiring. However it has no brightness control and is useless in daylight, forget about looking at it with sunglasses on. A real bummer, I'll be pulling it out and looking for something else like the Alpine or Pioneer units.
I bought the ILX-F309... put it in the dash... and took it out... returned it...
Any infotainment screen that low on the dash, even in the highest position that part covers the center speedo/gauges... is a dangerous thing to look at...
I really would like something like that... the huge screen is awesome... but it's just too dang low IMO .
I WILL be installing the less expensive but similar iLX-F411 in my Silverado however ... as it is in easy sight while driving 🙂
In my 2006 R53 JCW...w/HK ..
I will run a non connected iPhone XS-Max on the right side of the tach for navigation and digital OBD-II gauges (split screen)... and my iPhone 11 on the left for Phone and Spotify. ... Glass cockpit and easy to see/access without taking my eyes off the road. Both mounts with Qi wireless charging on them.
I've ordered the SPH-10BT Pioneer head unit and the Axxess AX-BM9112 Wiring Interface
Which allows me to retain the factory amp and steering wheel controls in the 2002-08 Mini Cooper vehicles with Harman Kardon. Plus, now the two phone buttons on the factory 2006 steering wheel will actually do something 🤙
I really like the sound of the Harmon Kardon system in the car currently, but connectivity that updates the car 16 years is a good idea. ...
The Axxess integration modules tie on the new H.U. To the HK system very well from what I’ve read on many different forums/FB etc.
I may or may not upgrade the speakers in the future with some great 2 & 4 ohm ‘HK compatible’ speakers...depends on how it sounds with the new H.U.
Right now... I want the steering wheel controls to function for handsfree, volume, track, and source controls... to use the My OBDLink gauges, WAZE, Phone and Spotify... all with bluetooth and all in my normal line of vision without taking my eyes completely off the road to gander down low below the Speedo that already takes my eyes off the road, if I look at it.
I won't use the built in cradle of the Pioneer head-unit unless my passenger wants to use.
Pioneer's Smart Sync app included with this unit acts like a ‘CarPlay’ display on the phone and gives a lot of control over the unit, when needed... but keeps it simple on the road.
Keeping it simple, hugely functional/safe and on a good budget.
