hello I am getting ready to install my components into my Mini.

some of it is old from my older vehicle but it still works great just the same.

I am pushing a JL audio stealthbox with my soundstream reference 405 amp which will also power my eclipse 6X9's and my eclipse seperates in the front.

I have 2 options on the headunit and that is where my question lies. I can either install my eclipse cd head unit or stick with the stocker. I really like the stearing wheel controls alot. and I also like the fact that with the stock head unit it looks like there is no reason to break into my car.

or I can install my eclipse head unit.

problem is there are no preamp outputs on the stock head unit to tie into my amp.

I need front channel, rear channel and sub channel. But I am pretty sure there are no pre amp rca outs on the stock head unit. so what should I do to hook it up? If I can't get it to work I will just put in my eclipse head unit but it wont work with my stearing wheel which I really enjoy.

My amp will draw sub channel off of the other channels if I set it up that way. it is a 5 channel amp 400 watts.

FWIW, I think you should switch out the stock gear to your Eclipse HU. I face the same question, and I plan to install my Eclipse HU with JL amps and stealthbox once my car arrives. I'll be curious to see what other people have done, since we have the same questions to address. Good luck!

 

Pat W – I have installed an aftermarket Alpine unit and use the PAC SWI-X Universal Steering Wheel Audio Interface and my MFSW works great.

 

Oh that is a thought.

however, while my eclipse hu does support ir remote. I never bought that option. My eclipse is 5 years old. I don't know if I can find a remote to use to program the mfsw thing. humm. but if I can find a remote on ebay or something this may very well be a way to go. I have had eclipse sterio's for 11 years none of them ever got stolen, something about the electronic tracking and the cd key that discourages theaves.
