H-K upgrades (yet again)

Question for the group:

Currently my '05 is at the stereo shop getting new speaks and sub/amp added. Installer has never operated on a MINI before, so he is a little apprehensive. He has been calling me all day with questions about wiring diagrams etc...

He tells me that since I want to keep the stock HK head unit, I will not get any fade capability, just left to right balance. Is this correct?

Also, where is a good place to tap into to get low level imput for the sub amp?

The only reason I haven't decided to change out the head unit is I am wanting the Sirius stuff when it comes out.

T.

What are you replacing?

If you remove the HK amp, the head unit reverts to being a standard head unit. Therefore it has separate front/rear speaker level outputs.

If your installer is replacing the HK amp and telling you there is no front/rear fade, that is because he is not bothering to run additional speaker wires from the head unit to the amp (the HK amp only has front speaker wires from the head unit, but the rear outputs are present and will work once the HK amp is gone).

There is *no* good low level signal on the stock head unit.
Seriously, if you are already changing the HK amp and speakers, you will get the best results by changing the head unit also to one with low level outputs - provided your installer can do a good job (Tweeter failed on this for me).
You can get satellite radio with aftermarket head units ...
