Different...Base Dash Head Issue

2006 MCS 6 Speed. Standard Base Dash Head..AM/FM W/ single CD.

AM - pulls in good stations until you hit a bump or after a period of time. This is very intermittent. Most of the time your in the car it does this. You can turn off radio and back on will bring the station back to good reception. Local stations do not fade out. I normally listen to a station 50 miles away and this occurs. Does this with different stations.

FM - if it a not local (within 10 miles) it SUCKS. Some station will make it, but most are static. Very seldom does a bump or turning off the unit make a difference.

CD - always working fine. Hitting bumps not even faze

Is it the Dash Radio Head?

Do I have a antenna unit going out?

An amplifier?

I've searched and see threads that stare at me and say almost but not the answer?

Looking for help before I start looking at changing units.

Thank you for your time,

Mini Buff

Yes there is an antenna amp. Browse realoem.com to locate it.

I've traced wires, checked connection, found all components.

Check out realeom.com, great reference.

My question is if I have a component going out, which one could be?

Is it the amp?

Is this what happens when an amp is going out?

Trying to figure out!

Don't want to get into replacing stuff that don't need replacing$$$$

Check the local ground at the antenna amp for a loose or dirty connection.

I will check & clean all grounds & connections.

Thank you for responding quickly.

I would like to add that shutting off the radio and turning it on re-establishes a good AM signal, but nothing on the FM side when you off-n-on.

Any thoughts?

Your may have a dry joint in the amp. Get on eBay and order a replacement used one.

Not to seem dumb, 'Dry joint'?

Are you saying bad or dry connection that is not receiving good connection?
