Upgrading CCC Nav to CIC?

I'm buying a Mini Cooper S Tomorrow its an 08 with basically every extra you can think of. I want the Mini Connected however and I'm aware this didn't come in to Minis until sorta 2011ish.

Basically I'm wondering can it be retrofitted? and also can the new CIC system that the new mini's have be retrofitted? I've called my local BMW dealer and they're gunna get back to me.

Just thought I'd ask her to see if its ever been done...

A retrofit would be so expensive that buying a 2011+ would be cheaper, and dealer might refuse to do it because of the complexity and the risk it won't work (involves not just component swap but also reprogramming). A 2011+ would be better anyway because of the engine improvements.

What engine improvements? I wasn't aware of that

Here's information about 2011 updates:
http://www.motoringfile.com/2010/05/...ines-in-depth/
http://www.motoringfile.com/2010/08/...per-s-refresh/

Notably about the newer engine, it is believed that it has less of an issue with carbon buildup on the valves than the older engine.

If you look up the BMW Coding website, you can find out A LOT of info. But the short of it is that's it's either an expensive PITA to get someone to do it for you, or, it's A HUGE PITA to do it yourself but doable. It's NOT just plug n' play by any means!!! You've got to change/add the VO for your MINI, update the VIN, get a new FSC and upload it to the module...

I'm starting to get into the dark arts of coding/programming MINI's, and the more I learn the more lost I am!!!

(BTW, if anyone knows how to pull the 1B file using a DCAN cable, I'll be your BFF & case of beer of your choice!! :-D)
