6.5" will fit depending on the speaker although not sure what the factory speaker size actually is. I am have 6.5" Polk MM series components installed in mine this week along with polk 5 channel digital amp, polk 6.5's in rear, polk mm series 10" sub in boot and 9500 series Pioneer head unit.

Still unsure why such nice cars come with the some of the worst sounding factory audio units I have ever heard :(

I have a pair of Kicker 40CS674 6-3/4" installed and they fit perfectly. Also a pair of Polk Audio DB351 3.5" on the top. I kind of wish I would've bought the a-pillars and gotten a component set with tweeters but I'm happy for now... maybe in a year or two I'll consider it .

They stock head unit is crap but that being said new speakers will sound better than stock even without a amp just depends on the quality your after.

This is whats being installed in mine this week :

T-Spec V10-4RAK Amp Kit 99.99 99.99T
1 Polk Audio MM1040 10" Subwoofer 199.99 199.99T
1 Polk Audio PA D5000.5 5 Channel Amp 409.95 409.95T
Pioneer DEHX9600BHS CD Reciever with MIXTRAX, Bluetooth, HD
Radio, adn SiriusXM Ready
1 229.99 229.99T
labor to install amp, head unit, steering wheel controls, components,
coaxials and sub
1 300.00 300.00T
1 Polk Audio MM6501 6.5" Component Set 299.99 299.99T
1 Custom sub enclosure 100.00 100.00T
1 Metra ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Module 58.99 58.99T
1 MINI COOPER 07-UP/09-10 CONV Dash kit 44.99 44.99T
1 BMW and MINI Cooper Accessory Wire With Chime Speaker 99.99 99.99T
1 Metra 40-EU10 Euro CAr Antenna Adapter 9.99 9.99T
1 Stinger RCA 8000 Series 12' 4 CH RCA 79.99

This is just copy pasted from the quote pdf from the company doing the work for me. Will be able to opperate bluetooth calls and basic functions from the steeriing wheel. The one kit changes the location of the A/C control's and switches to allow for a double din install where the boost cd is plus has filler plates for the stuff inside the speedo.

Yep, I did the channel swap and replaced the speakers. No amp at the moment. Don't really see a need though, they are loud enough for me. Besides loud speakers... is there any other reason to get an amp? Sorry, I'm pretty new to this lol

Oh, yeah forgot to say... they sound A LOT better than the stock speakers but I'm sure they would sound a lot better if I had tweeters either in the A-pillars or somewhere higher up on the door. If you know how to do it go for it

Are you running any kind of crossover between the 6 3/4 and the 3.5? Are they wired to the same channel?

no crossover, it was pretty much a swap. Maybe in a year or two I'll consider changing the set up but for now I'm happy.

I think I'm going to order your front speaker suggestion. I wonder how difficult hooking up an AMP to run them and the price?
The GP has no rear speakers so maybe I will just add a Free Air 10" sub to the music some fullness.
