Parrot Asteroid Smart (Double Din). Possible?
How hard would it be to install the Parrot Asteroid Smart? It's a double din device, but because it doesn't have an optical drive, it is actually very shallow. My understanding is that the issue for most double din installs is the depth of them is an issue due to the some of the AC pieces. Is this feasible with the shallower unit? Most of the post I read said simply moving the AC unit and switches down 1 din was not that difficult, it was other components behind them that were an issue?

Your assessment is fairly accurate, although I think the side tubes and cup holders need some minor adjustments too.

I'm a little bothered by the fact that Parrot Asteroid runs a much older version of Android. Android 2.3 is rather outdated at this point.
I'm actually switching my plan. I'm going to put in a pioneer digital media receiver and get a mount for my nexus 7. Probably something easily removable. That way I can use my galaxy S3, nexus 7 or ipod depending on my mood. I'll spend a lot less money and have a more capable setup when I need it.
Now the next step is new speakers, the factory ones are shot. The speakers were actually what got my thinking of updating the setup in the first place. I've been all factory for 4 years with the exception of a grom kit for ipod and aux input.

The smart does run an older version but it is rather snappy. Messed around with it at Fry's. Others have said the same.
As far as capabilities are concerned, check the xda forums.
I hear you though. I'm currently working on my own radio. It will be controlled by a windows 8.1 tablet (non rt). It has an arduino controller, fm/am chip, 2 minidsp's.
The arduino runs the fm/am chip as well as controlling relays to the various inputs to the dsps. One of the inputs is an aptx bluetooth box. Therefore, anything the windows computer plays will be piped to the whole system in lossless fashion.
The windows 8.1 comp will control the arduino via serial bluetooth so there are none cables between the units.
