Navigation & Audio Fitting an active sub (Edge) to a standard Mini head unit.
Fitting an active sub (Edge) to a standard Mini head unit.
Anyone got any info on where to tap in?
Need to run a power cable from battery to boot;
Need to find a remote source from somewhere!;
Which wires to tap into for a low level input;
Ground wire;
Battery to boot should be fairly simple, just take battery out, take front off the plastic grommet and either drill or use a spare hole to feed 12G power cable through. Ground wire will have somewhere in the boot to ground to.
The speaker wires im guessing are around the x9331 connecter in passenger footwell (drivers to you lot!) Remote i have heard is possible in the x15 connecter behind it but not entirely sure. I have the channel swap mod so the bass is in the rear speakers and not the front, so possible could tap into the rear speakers but not sure where. There is no amp in the boot, just an empty void with some wires running through on the right behind the fabric. It is an R56 facelift Cooper S with standard sound system, but have the navigation so maybe boost?
The sub im fitting is a 10" active box, so a sub with a built in amp. Dont need show standard sound, just would like a bit of ooomph really and to hopefully take some of the strain off the main speakers to avoid the stupid anti-clipping system that the r56 head unit seems to have.
I have searched for hours but am unable to find any way of doing it without buying new harnesses etc. I dont have the funds to be buying adapters, would much rather just tap into wires.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Rikki!

First off, I'm a complete noob. Take my advice with caution.
The way I plan on doing this is with a powered sub.
Run power wire to the battery.
Run the ground wire to a little black box that is in the little compartment in the left side of the boot, the one with the removable cover/ face. There is a little black 'box' (I guess you can call it) has a number of brown wires connected to it, brown means ground in the UK. Either connect it in there or just some clean part of metal.
Use the signal input wire and splice it together with the rear speaker's harness (disconnect the speaker though).
I haven't done this yet but it is my plan for when I do. Hope it helps!
