Navigation & Audio Smartphone integration options
Smartphone integration options
Newbie here, long time/first time, so apologies if I'm breaching etiquette. I've found some info scattered in threads, and thought it might be useful to pull it into one.
To make an old story short, I want to integrate my iPhone with the factory stereo in an R50. I want the best possible audio quality and the ability to answer calls, play/pause and launch Siri from the steering wheel buttons. Switching tracks would be nice, too. I would prefer USB to a proprietary connector, so I can switch between my Lightning iPhone and my 30-pin iPod, and be future-proof if I switch to Android or something else later. Bluetooth is nice, but lower priority; I like dash mounts so I can use the phone for navigation.
Budget is a factor. I'm pretty handy at DIY but would prefer not to do any cutting on the car or any soldering.
So far, I've found two options:
• iSimple. Appears to be older. All the info is about iPod, not iPhone, integration. Unclear on whether Siri works. Proprietary cable. Not sure if Lightning adapter works.
• Dice/Audiovox MediaBridge. Considerably more expensive, but this looks like da bomb, as the kids say. Does it really deliver everything it promises?
Are there any other options worth considering? I see some other devices, including something called a Dice Silverline, and some pretty dodgy looking no-name gadgets.
Thanks.
