Navigation Drive Question

Seems as though my old DVD drive is not reading the navigation disc. Is it possible to utilize the in-dash DVD navigation drive instead of the floor mounted unit in my 2005 Cooper S R52? Is so, how complicated would it be?

It's hard to understand what you're asking. You mentioned in-dash DVD navigation drive. Do you mean one in a 2007-2010 R56 with factory Nav, and you want to use it in an R52? No, the electronics in 2nd gen MINI were completely revised and incompatible with 1st gen.

I see that you posted before about your Nav drive. Have you tried replacing the laser?

Unfortunately, I am a complete Mini novice and have no clue how to have the laser pick-up replaced.

The answer is no, you cannot use the radio cd player for the Nav. You will have to buy a new unit under the seat or try to replace the laser.

Geez, I wish this car was easier to work on. My BMW M3 isn't this complicated.

Where did you hear that a MINI was easy?

If you read that correctly, I said I wish the Mini was easier to work on.

Been sick and on drugs so I typed it wrong. I meant what makes you think that it isn't easy to work on. The part you need to replace is located under the seat (4 bolts and a plug) and then you have to remove the cover (another 4 bolts). It takes less than 10 min to get at and replace.

The laser repair is a totally different type of work and not a repair that MINI even does. They will not tear into the internals at all. This repair was figured out by others that didn't want to pay the 1 plus thousand to replace the unit, so you are heading in to areas that few have gone.
